'The Dark Knight Rises' trailer breaks iTunes record with over 12.5 million downloads in 24 hours

Christopher Nolan hasn't even finished editing The Dark Knight Rises, but it's already breaking records! Warner Bros. put out a press release today announcing that The Dark Knight Rises trailer #2 broke the record for most downloads on Apple's iTunes Movie Trailers website. The trailer was downloaded more than 12.5 million times in the first 24 hours!

BURBANK, CA, December 23, 2011 – The new trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” smashed the record for most combined downloads through the iTunes Movie Trailers site (www.itunes.com/trailers) and the iTunes Trailers iOS app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The trailer went online at 10:00 Monday morning, December 19, and was viewed more than 12.5 million times in its first 24 hours, breaking the previous record by well over two million. The trailer can be viewed in HD at http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/thedarkknightrises/.

Right you are Mr FantasyBoy, right you are! By the time TDKR hits theatres all across the world, Warner Bros execs will resign because they have been wrong all along about Bane's voice and most important the office will burn up itself. Or the Joker must somehow have something to do with it! :-)

BTW, this is why the Avengers suddenly went 3D; Disney saw these numbers before they went public. Scared to death by the quality of the trailer and Bane's voice, they needed go to 3D in order to somewhat compete financially with TDKR!

And this is exactly why Nolan doesn't need 3D. He already has the epicness of it all with IMAX cameras and outstanding cast. Don't get me wrong I will still see The Avengers, but not as excited about it as I am TDKR!!!

If it were at possible to measure, I'd be willing to bet that The Dark
Knight Rises may hold the record as being the most anticipated film to date.
I mean, it hasn't even been released and it's already broken a record.
How goddamn incredible is that? It goes to show how great a filmmaker
Nolan is, that he's done this wonderful a job of building anticipation.
And the amazing thing is that he's doing primarily through the story
he's unfurled so far and has us so far on the edge to see how he's going
to bring it to a close.

Unfortunately it looks like The Hunger Games has taken the cake when it comes to most anticipated films. I googled The Dark Knight Rises and all I could see was how the Hunger GAmes surpassed this movie and Breaking Dawn Part 2 for most anticipated in 2012.

You are crazy if you think WB is going to just let Nolan and company walk away after this, absolutely crazy. This Batman Saga is such a cash cow for Warner Brothers it goes beyond comprehension and comparison. The studios knows damn well that if they reboot this series it'll squander their biggest company asset that's produced revenues in the excess of billions since Batman Begins totaled over $800,000 and TDK took in $1.1 billion. Even if TDKR ends up a flop (which it won't) the studio will easily see a net gain of $600 million on this film.

With the Harry Potter series complete and who knows what will happen with "Man of Steel", I would expect the studio to come hard after team Nolan again to continue the series, to say otherwise would be like saying Warner Brothers primary emphasis isn't to make money.

However without Chris Nolan and team, Batman will never be the same again. He changed things... forever. There's no going back. I cant see another Batman film without Chris Nolan, nor do I think I want to without him at the helm. Its just so sad :'(

Well, unless they put a gun to his head, then I suspect they're shit out of luck. I want to see more of the Nolanverse as much as anyone, but not at the expense of creativity. Nolan would return if he felt there was more to the story and knew what to say about it. Otherwise, it's just an add-on and both the film(s) and the franchise will suffer because of that. And if that happens, then their money train could easily derail. I'm hoping Warner Bros. realise that and will learn to let it go.

  There's over 80 years of material to draw from, there's over 150 graphic novels to elaborate on and countless villains, storylines and characters to chose from --- I don't suspect creativity would be too much of a problem with a scope as big as Batman. Nolan has also said after every film that he "might" not return to do another, he was skeptical about coming back to Batman after TDK and Heath Ledgers death if you remember and if the story was right --- he'd come back. Well they apparently got the story right and he's back.
  Who's to say there's not another chapter in this saga? Every director and film maker in history has tried making the excuse that there's no story left to tell --- and time and time again we've all seen them return for another go around. Look at George Lucas, Steve Spielberg,
  Robert Zemeckis, Peter Jackson and if you want count Michael Bay (he can't seem to stay away from Transformers).
  If Christopher Nolan's name is attached to a film --- the chances of that train derailing are as good as Jett getting a sex change over at BOF ----- wait, actually.......

I wonder how these movies are going to stand up against the test of time. The Batman saga (thus far) has been pretty much flawless as far as I'm concerned. I loved Begins and Dark Knight. I wonder if the trilogy will compete with the great trilogies like Star Wars (Episodes 4,5,6 - The more recent ones were friggin' horrible) and Indiana Jones (not the 4th one - That was pathetic)?

I have an important question. I won't be able to get to a true IMAX until January 8th. Will Ghost Protocol with The Dark Knight Rises Prologue still be playing then? I don't want to take the 4 hour trip for nothing...anyone know? I would suspect it would still be playing but I dont know for sure....help?!

The Dark Knight Rises = mash up of the Comics :Knightfall/No Man's Land/Whattever Happened to The Caped Crusader/Tthe Dark Knight Returns/Batman:R. I. P. /Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne ......IMO. I believe Alfred will have a HUGE role in this saga from Begins to Rises.
