Will Sarah Essen & Julie Madison be in 'The Dark Knight Rises'? [Update: Not likely]

After doing some investigating, I don’t believe that there is anything to the rumor that the characters Sarah Essen and Julie Madison are in in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. For the record, my money's still on Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Update #2: /Film reports on the actresses who may have been up for these roles.

Last week Moviehole reported that Nolan was meeting with actresses for the lead female role in The Dark Knight Rises. It was quickly assumed that this part was for Catwoman or Talia al Ghul. BOF claims to have heard differently though. They've heard "whispers" that the two possible female roles are for Detective Sarah Essen & Julie Madison. Sarah Essen is known in the comics for having an affair with Jim Gordon and even marries him after he gets a divorce. In the comics, Julie Madison is best known as Batman's first significant love interest. According to the source, Julie would play the smaller role, with Sarah being a main supporting character.

It should be noted that BOF starts it's post with "File this under 'Take with a grain of salt,' OK?". I wouldn't put much into this "rumor" right now, but feel free to discuss the possibility of these two characters joining the cast in the comments.

AHhh don't fall into Jett's trap. Batman fans are alright with not having any news, we're used to it. Whenever Jett posts something coming from his sources and says, "with a grain of salt" and mentions he knows the names of the actresses, "...well known and unknown" or whatever that Texas homosexual wrote don't take it with even a grain of salt. He's been 100 percent wrong on every front so far and hedges his bets with every "scoop". Unless it comes from a reputable movie site I wouldn't take it as even rumor. Jett has made himself look like a fool multiple times with BS like this. Of course Essen or Madison could be in the film, there is a vacuum that needs to be filled in the Batman movieverse for female characters.

You might as well print a Op Ed piece if you need a new article instead of quoting Jett. Your trying to be the Anti Jett. I could of posted the same thing and said :

My well placed sources claim that Chris Nolan is busy meeting with Hollywood's top female talent to fill multiple roles in TDKR. My sources tell me that Nolan has met with well known nominated actresses and a few lesser knowns building up their street cred. Either way my sources tell me we should be getting a few more bits of casting by the end of November. I have heard whispers through multiple people within my ring of insiders that there are two female roles that need to be filled. One is rumored to be Sarah Essen, a detective paired with Gordon that eventually has a affair with the newly appointed Commish. Sounds like a convincing choice seeing as Gordon's family was focused on last time around and he has yet to show any kinks in his armor. The other female role is that of the long rumored Selina Kyle. My source tells me there definitely are some drawings of the infamous Cat Suit being passed around at these top secret meetings. Meow. Well you know what I always say, "take this with a grain of salt...even though I'm telling you I heard this information directly from my "inside sources". See you at the end of November. I also want to thank my main source, "B.S" for the bulk of the inside information.

See it's that easy to fake sources and scoop stories. You don't nessesarily need to break the story, just be the place people want to read the story. If you check the movie news sites as much and as often as I do I'm sure you'll have no problem getting the bulk of the traffic off the SHH boards as well as getting cited by news outlets if you write good pieces with good pictures attached.

I will NEVER be like Jett, however I do want to be THE alternative to BOF. Therefore I need to report on the stories he posts. I want this place to be a worthy competitor, so if he has a post about Sarah Essen & Julie Madison, I have to have something about them too. I agree with you though, Jett has been VERY unreliable with news regarding The Dark Knight and so far with The Dark Knight Rises. That's why I put the emphasis on that in my closing paragraph.
In the month of October Batman-News.com got 20,753 visitors & 37,393 pageviews! I'm very happy with how it's doing so far :)

  Found out about you on Jow Forums. I dig the site so far. It looks a lot cleaner and organized than BOF. A LOT cleaner and organized. That said, I disagree on the "need to report on the stories [Jett] posts." I agree if it's a legitimate story, but I think this is Jett musing, stirring the pot and trying to keep BOF alive since there hasn't been any real news in almost a week. Note that he doesn't cite anything regarding his "investigating." Did he call Warner's? Or did he scour SHH forums? It's just B.S.'ing, in my opinion. I'm sure that if no one in TDKR's camp is revealing who Tom Hardy is playing, they're not revealing if the female lead is Madison, Essen, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, et al. He has nada. I'm not gonna tell you how to run your site (which I like very much!), but if you felt the need to report on the story, I'd write your own op-ed, and not cite Jett's lack-of-citation musings.

    Thanks for the kind words! I think you're right. He didn't really put much behind this report. Batman-News.com will be 2 months old on Saturday, it's definitely still a work in progress and I'm learning as I go. ComicBookMovie.com is now reporting this same story, with the actresses that are up for the roles too. I don't consider them to be a good source though, they've gone as far as publishing a *fake* Christian Bale interview. Thanks again, and I appreciate the feedback. Good or bad I want to hear it. I want this to be *our* Batman website, not just mine :)

      Hey, no worries. I was relieved to see another site dedicated to Batman movies when I found out about this place on Jow Forums! As for Batman-News.com being two months old this week, congratulations! I think you have a lot to be proud of. You've got an awesome, professional layout, and up-to-date news. And I think having the attitude of making it a fan's Batman website where they feel welcome is awesome, rather than one guy's website that anyone can visit. Honestly, you're doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

I don´t believe in one word coming from Jett. Gordon is already married...how he can have a new love interest? It screams fake! And Julie Madison can be Bruce´s love interest only at the beginning,but I don´t believe she could be his definitive love interest.
It´s gonna be Talia Al Ghul(my bet)or Selina Kyle.
I have no doubt!

Yeah Jett had good info for Batman Begins, but he's been a pretty bad source for The Dark Knight & The Dark Knight Returns. The only reason I posted this is because I'd rather have people read it here than BOF.
I'd like to see Selina Kyle personally.

  I'm personally impartial as to whether or not you use any story that Jett uses, provided you write it off as speculation in the article and not fact. You seem to have everything else down perfectly so far (including the iPhone format, which I applaud you for), so I can forgive you for using information from other sites in order to keep us informed as to where other rumours may stem from.
  Keep up the good work fella, I'm feeling confident that over the next two years (and beyond) this WILL be the prime location to come to for The Dark Knight Rises news

Yikes, Jett may have been on to something. There are reports on a few sites that claim Charlize Theron, Vera Farmiga, and another name that I didn't recognize are up for the 2 parts. There are claims that Theron has been offered Essen and the other 2 are up for Julie Madison. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Farmiga as Selina Kyle bc she doesn't seem like the Julie Madison type.

Lets hope if these rumors are true it doesn't mean Selina isn't in the film bc that's 2 semi main female roles. Those roles can fill the spots left by Rachel and Ramirez though so there is still room for a Catwoman villain storyline. I don't see Catwoman being the main threat or even a real threat in TDKR though. I can see her getting into a few scrapes with Batman but ultimately helping him in the end....I guess similar to Batman Returns..

That paragraph is pretty similar to different things you've wrote in articles and comment responses...my guess is that he definitely reads your site and is threatened by it's superiority...ahaha. The ole Texan self proclaimed "Worlds Greatest Bat Fan" is on the ropes!!!

It's not my website, it's *our* website. It'll continue to grow and change based on the feedback I get.

i feel like it will be very hard to give equal play to both talia and catwoman in one movie, so i think it will be one of them and then a civilian girlfriend for bruce, possibly madison. i don't think nolan will bother giving gordon any new love intrests or marital problems
