50 on From the Batman News Desk: Whatever happened to Tim Drake?Welcome to From the Batman News Desk, a new series of op-eds and articles covering various aspects of Batman history. Each week one of the Batman News writers will share their thoughts on Batman characters and concepts across comics, film, television, and more. Fans and detractors alike could probably all agree that Tim Drake is…
DC's Absolute Power: Task Force VII continues to explore the state of Amanda Waller's new enforcers. This time, we rejoin the sociopathic brain child of Chip Zdarsky's Batman of Zur-En-Arrh, Failsafe. Yet, Failsafe isn't just another one of Waller's obedient Amazo androids. Like the Batman Who Laughs, Failsafe is the latest horrifying inversion of everything…
As Tom Taylor's run nears its end, Nightwing #113 works as a makeshift anthology for its #300 issue milestone. Somewhat feeling like an annual, it features three consecutive stories told by Tom Taylor, Marv Wolfman, and Richard W. Conrad. The issue honors the spirit of the run so far, and ominously teases what's to come.…
I can’t tell you how excited I am that Batman: Wayne Family Adventures even exists, let alone got published not only as a Webtoon, but got a physical release as well. This comic has been my number one favorite thing DC comics has published since it’s initial release back in September of 2021. I’m delighted…
Last month Knight Terrors: Robin opened by dropping both Jason Todd and Tim Drake into their own personal nightmares together. It very much felt like only part of a story rather than a completed thought. This issue steps in to wrap up the ideas presented in the previous one, and finish the story. I was…
Knight Terrors: Robin features Tim Drake and Jason Todd as they –like the rest of the world– have been thrust into their worst nightmares. In this dream, at least they have each other...well kind of. I’m not sure what I was really expecting to get out of this issue. It’s fine, it’s not poorly written…
We’re here at the finale of this underwhelming series. It got canceled before it ever really picked up and in my eyes will have had a pretty negative legacy for the character of Tim Drake. Personally I will always associate it with the pinkwashing of police officers through the character Detective Williams who thankfully never…
DC Comics is back to kick start pride month with DC Pride: 2023 #1, which follows the same format as the last two years with several short stories featuring some of DC's most prevalent LGBTQIA+ characters. Before reading the stories, I urge everyone to read Phil Jimenez’s foreword which is exceptionally well done and reminds…
My review for the previous issue had an astonishing amount of comments, each one providing fun or insightful viewpoints that I am happy to share here before we start the review! With Tim Drake being the titular character it’s normal that many people who are invested in the character would speak out about his misrepresentation…
My review for the previous issue had an astonishing amount of comments, each one providing fun or insightful viewpoints that I am happy to share here before we start the review! The comments for the last issue were teeming with new ideas as many made their disappointment in DC known. There were lots of complaints and…
Now the review for the previous issue had an astonishing amount of comments, each one providing fun or insightful viewpoints that I am happy to share here before we start the review! I feel like my review was blessed by a series of in depth essays tackling the series in their own way and so…
It's the final issue of this series, and while I'm not exactly distraught to see it go, I do think it's a little sad that this might be the last we see of this version of Batman's world. I've really enjoyed the Gotham Knights universe, and I hope we get to see more of it in…
We're back with a blast from the past (a few, actually) in this week's issue of Gilded City! This whole mini has been better than it had any right to be, especially for a video game tie-in comic, and I honestly would love to see this Narcisse/Abel/John/Wands team on a future bat-project, unhindered by any obligations…
Let me start off this review with a correction. Tim Drake: Robin is not a mini-series and I was wrong to say that this would be the last issue of the Tim Drake: Robin saga. Honestly I’m glad that this is continuing because the next issue seems to be separate from the Moriarty stuff and…
I recently had the chance to ask Chip Zdarsky some questions regarding is current run on Batman, and more specifically, Tim Drake's Toybox backup story. A lot of exciting events are happening over on Batman, and Tim is being thrust into the center of the mystery. He's always been one of the brightest minds in…
So we’re almost at the end of this mini-series! Tim Drake has to confront his biggest villain which sounds as anti-climactic as you should expect it to be based on a story that has as of yet failed to deliver on many fronts.Because this comic has many people leaving thoughtful comments about this mini-series I…
We're back! The Runaway's adventures continue, and the FOMO Fear Gas is still spreading! What secrets connect the two? Will our heroes, past and present, be able to stop their respective crises? Let's find out! The Runaway I think I've said it in just about every review so far, but The Runaway is such an…
The mysteries are piling up as Robin tries to put the pieces together. There are clues stranded in a sea of information and he feels like he’s getting closer and closer to unveiling it all! Since these comics attract a lot of criticism from Tim Drake fans I am always happy to include their points…
It's time to dive back into Gotham with our favorite vigilantes! A quick aside before we get started, I've been playing the Heroic Assault raids in Gotham Knights: The Game the Comic the Game, and they're a lot of fun! I teamed up with some friends, and we were able to clear most of the floors…
Ghost-Maker's Batman Inc. is a disaster spiraling out of control. The simple mission of tracking down a murderer has turned into an international mess. While readers get a reveal of the killer's origin and motives, Ghost-Maker and his team fruitlessly scramble to keep up. Firstly, this issue focuses on who Phantom-One is and why he…
