2 on Robins #2 reviewRobins #2 is here, and boy howdy is it a book! Full of some of the art, dialogue, and storytelling I’ve ever seen, this book is, definitely! Throwing Down the Gauntlet I think the thing that’s bothering me so much about this book (aside from my previously stated gripes with the Round Robin tournament) is…
It’s no surprise Nightwing 2021 Annual #1 is a predictable, yet wholesome tale of familial bonding since it’s written by Tom Taylor. That’s not a dig at Taylor’s writing prowess, but it is what he’s best at and he appears to know it. While Taylor’s script offers few surprises, it’s accompanied by handsome art courtesy…
As soon as I heard this book's pitch during DC's Round Robin contest, I felt sick. Not because I don't like the idea, the Robins are my absolute favorite part of the Batman mythos, and a book of them just hanging out sounds absolutely wonderful, but because of where it was positioned in the bracket.…
Okay. I know what you're thinking. I was thinking it too. A Titans synergy comic? Who the hell asked for this? That'd be like asking for a Superman comic written by the guy who wrote like, Holy Terror or something. Me. I did. I've wanted to cover a Titans book for ages now. Regardless, you can relax.…
After a promising second issue, Future State: Gotham returns for its third foray into the dark future of, well, Gotham. Previously, Peacekeeper Red and the Next Batman had been caught in the middle of a mass breakout at Blackgate Penitentiary. Will this unlikely duo survive the night, or do the inmates of Blackgate have more…
Before we start anything, I want to clarify and apologize for some things in my review of this series' last issue. In said review, I realize now that I made it seem like this book having black and white art negatively impacted my score of the issue. I'm sorry for that. It's not true, and,…
In the not-so-distant Future State, Gotham has changed. An oppressive figure known as the Magistrate has banned all vigilantes from active duty. Of course, none of Gotham's crime fighters actually stopped, so now the Magistrate is cracking down on these criminal scum. And who better to bring in the Bat-family than the Red Hood, mercenary…
WARNING: Full spoilers for all of Three Jokers will follow. Well, here we are. DC’s Rebirth line began over four years ago now, and when bookended with Dark Nights: Death Metal, we see one of the most interesting creative trajectories a comic book company has made in recent history. What started as a critically and…
WARNING: There’s no way around it – this review is going to contain heavy spoilers. It’s no secret that I’ve been incredibly excited for this book. As someone who grew up with Geoff Johns’ Justice League run – it’s honestly a big part of what motivated me to get into comics at all – Three…
There’s going to be a lot of talk about Nightwing #74 regardless of whether or not it’s actually a quality book. It marks a new status quo for Dick and the Bat Family, while apparently severing ties with many things that came along with the Ric saga. While I think there’s a lot of promise…
WARNING: I will try my best to make this as spoiler-free as possible, but if you’d rather go in completely blind, I would recommend buying and reading the book before this review. The year is 2016, and we’re on the back end of the New 52. I’m heavily invested in Justice League: Darkseid War: a…
For most of the past two years, I've had a steady a stream of Diamond Select statues coming through my house. Before the world retreated behind its collective mask, I was reviewing almost everything that was shipping. But then things stopped shipping for a bit! Well, the world is slowly peeking its nose out, and…
(Bear with me for the following monologue; this is all relevant, I promise. I’ll signpost when the actual review begins.) It might surprise you to know that DC Comics is actually a person. That’s right! It’s easy to think that a comic book company is but a mere faceless conglomerate: a simple groaning limb of…
I am not doing great. Last year, I had little going on in my life, and it was an endless source of frustration for someone just coming out of high school, and looking for direction. When I got this job, that was the first step to finding a routine I felt was both satisfying and…
