0 on Outsiders #9 reviewFollowing the previous solo issue, Outsiders returns to check in on Drummer, Fox, and his super-heroic son. While Kate fought against her destiny among undead cowboys, the rest of the Outsiders head to the jungle seeking theirs. Inevitably, the gang unearth another cosmic mystery, but this time they have a difficult choice ahead of them.…
The cat is out of the bag! In the previous issue, Drummer reveals that she has been Jakita Wagner the entire time! Whether readers are familiar with the events of Planetary or not, Outsiders #7 takes time to illuminate the true fate of the team. Let's take a look. You've Been In My Story Since…
In spite of the name, Kelly & Lanzing's Outsiders are unlike any before them. Disturbingly, the series has far more in common with Wildstorm's late 90's series Planetary. This includes blatantly recreating the team structure, Wildstorm cameos, and Luke straight up copying Elijah Snow's outfits. As the Wildstorm mystery continues to come together, it isn't…
"Sometimes, less is more." That's the phrase that kept repeating in my head as I read I Am Batman #9 - and indeed, issues #7 and #8. While I went into this new arc with excitement, all three of these issues have brought the same problem with them that the book had before: try as I…
"Represent. Always represent." These are the words that conclude I Am Batman #5, and they feel almost cathartic. Not only is it the final line in a genuinely good scene - one that actually does feel earned, to boot - but it also feels like a turning point. With these words, we're finally given a real direction…
I am Batman #4 is a comic dedicated to cleaning up plot threads and establishing a new status quo that doesn’t seem too different than what just came before. The Magistrate is in shambles, Simon Saint is behind bars, and characters spend a lot of time discussing what just happened as opposed to what happens…
This week, we'll be uploading two reviews for the latest issues of I Am Batman: a catch-up for last month's issue #2, and one for this month's issue #3. Both will cover different scenes, praises and critiques, but you'll find that each of them have a similar score. Let's get a positive out of the…
This week, we'll be uploading two reviews for the latest issues of I Am Batman: a catch-up for last month's issue #2, and one for this month's issue #3. Both will cover different scenes, praises and critiques, but you'll find that each of them have a similar score. Before I continue, I'd like to quickly…
NOTE: Read Batman: Fear State Alpha #1 before reading this issue. Alright everyone, take three! Time for the third - yes, third - new John Ridley Batman book, starring the exact same character you've seen in the first two. With the first series taking place in the future and the second being digital-first, this will be…
Before I start this review, I think it's important to read my recently uploaded review for The Next Batman: Second Son. Make no mistake, I Am Batman #0 is not the start to a new series, but the end of a previous one - and while I liked Second Son, it's a little frustrating that the creative…
At the beginning of 2021, Future State was released into the world - and whether you like it or not, it's been one of the driving forces of momentum for DC's universe as of late. Personally, I've found it kind of interesting! Seeing where places such as Gotham City are in the near future is…
Spoiler alert: I thought this comic was alright! Normally I tend to give my final thoughts at the end of the issue, but I think it’s important to preface this review with my ultimate opinion. In my review for The Next Batman #1, I praised the comic for its wonderful artwork, smattered across a selection…
