1 on Dark Knights Of Steel #10 reviewThe fighting finally ends after the latest death of one of the three monarchs in the land. Sadly, the existence of this new threat means that the war isn't over. Hopefully knowing the truth can restore the trust between the kingdoms before it is too late. The mother of the Amazons has died in battle.…
The colorfully explosive final chapter of DC: Mech brings the story to a close. With all five mechs upgraded, the Justice Squadron heads out to destroy Darkseid and the Anti-Life Engine once and for all! Or at least just indulge in some giant robot battles. What did you expect? Much of the actual plot comes…
Ghost-Maker's Batman Inc. is a disaster spiraling out of control. The simple mission of tracking down a murderer has turned into an international mess. While readers get a reveal of the killer's origin and motives, Ghost-Maker and his team fruitlessly scramble to keep up. Firstly, this issue focuses on who Phantom-One is and why he…
Amid the chaos happening in the wider universe, it is always nice when the story can settle down. DC: Mech #4 does it's best to bring the narrative closer to home before things get far worse. At this point in the monomyth, the characters go through a period of self reflection. After Kal-El crashes into…
Hey there, Bat Fans! For those of you who didn’t know, I went to NYCC earlier this month, and it was incredible. Nick and Casper tagged along, which was super fun (more on that here), and I’m looking forward to doing it again next year! While I was there, I was lucky enough to get…
My Dungeons and Dragons session got cancelled today, and I'm blaming it all on Dark Crisis. Oh, sorry. Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, apparently. I find it funny how excited DC was to market this name change - before it even happened in the story, no less! It makes a gal wonder if I should bother using a…
In the latest issue of DC: Mech, the human race seeks salvation from evil space invaders in the form of giant mech suits. However, Earth’s heroes brawl among themselves when one spaceman decides to offer his help. The story starts with the introduction of three new characters. Firstly, pilots John Stewart and Hal Jordan become…
Nightwing #89 spins a rote murder mystery that serves only to distract from the more engaging moments between Dick Grayson and Jon Kent. This issue reads more like a Tom Taylor greatest hits, built for fans of his recent work before fans of Nightwing himself. Bruno Redondo turns in excellent work as per usual, but…
Thank every dark god that ever crawled up out of the abyss. Our bizarre odyssey (more like blasé slog) is over. About halfway through Batman/Fortnite #6, Catwoman makes a humorous, topical, reference to the song Hotel California by The Eagles. The mean age of the band’s founding members is 73. Their song Hotel California was released…
…Argh. I’m going to try making this quick, because I don’t want to linger on this for too long. For the past several issues of Justice League, I’ve been having a great time reviewing the title. From The Garden of Mercy to Doom Metal, the comic has recently pivoted away from high-octane action, focusing more…
This book is a weird one to review. Recently, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised at the consistent level of quality we’re seeing from Justice League – especially when it’s serving the role of a tie-in to a larger event that I don’t have many positive feelings for. Joshua Williamson, Xermanico and Robson Rocha are telling…
Who, in your opinion, are the best adversaries in all of fiction? The dynamic of the arch-enemy is one that has persisted for many a decade, and it’s created a sea of wonderful content. The creative potential of two individuals at diametrically opposed ends of morality… well, it’s a well that you can seemingly draw…
In 1902, British author W. W. Jacobs published a collection of short stories entitled The Lady of the Barge: twelve different tales that predominantly focused on the horror genre. In this collection lay a tale called The Monkey’s Paw: an iconic supernatural story about a family who gain the mummified hand of a monkey, which…
Alright, full disclosure: I hate Dark Nights: Death Metal. I hate Dark Nights: Death Metal. I’m not blaming anyone in particular for why I hate it – I’ve heard enough about the industry by now to know that even finishing a comic book on time is something of a thermodynamic miracle. But whether I attribute…
(Bear with me for the following monologue; this is all relevant, I promise. I’ll signpost when the actual review begins.) It might surprise you to know that DC Comics is actually a person. That’s right! It’s easy to think that a comic book company is but a mere faceless conglomerate: a simple groaning limb of…
It’s been a long journey to the point Hell Arisen #4 brings us to. With several miniseries, tie-in issues and crossovers galore, the main storyline of the DC Universe has been wrapped up in these machinations for a while now. With the weight of the world on its shoulders, it’s no surprise Hell Arisen #4…
When it comes to supervillains, perhaps only the Joker is better known than Superman's arch-nemesis, the supergenius Lex Luthor. Before we even know who might draw him, who might voice him, or who could play him on-screen, we already have a clear, sharp image of Lex in our heads. It's a heavy burden for one…
If you go to the official website of Lex/OS, you're greeted with a deleted scene from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! The video is hosted on Warner Bros.'s YouTube channel and is titled "Communion". In the deleted scene, we see Lex Luthor exploring more of the Kryptonian ship. He comes face-to-face with an alien…
The Los Angeles Times published an in-depth interview with Jesse Eisenberg about his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role, and it has some interesting new details. When asked about Lex Luthor's different hair styles in the movie, Eisenberg replied "when you see the movie, you'll see. It's the greatest scene that I've ever gotten…
Warner Bros. has purchased another sponsored Lex Luthor article to promote Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, this time from Wired. It's a fascinating read, but of course my ears perked up when Luthor was asked about Batman. Here's an excerpt: RON TROUPE: And what are your thoughts on the Batman? He’s human. Presumably. LEX LUTHOR: Well, he…
