Robin has been shot! And the identity of this new “Holiday” shooter remains a mystery. Even though Robin survived the encounter with the shooter, Batman would never forgive himself if something severe were to ever happen to the boy. So how will the Dynamic Duo rebound? Dave Johnson, who’s mostly known for his cover work,…
Keeping the synergy between DC television, film, and games, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League releases a prequel tie-in comic. Set after the Arkham Asylum trilogy, and before the events of the game, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum softly introduces the new status quo. Let's take a look! Is This What We've Been Waiting For?…
Last month Knight Terrors: Detective Comics opened up its story with the focus on Jim Gordon and his own internal conflict regarding how he’s protected Gotham all these years. This issue continues to press into those questions, and explore the idea of Gotham’s future in the face of protectors who have been there for years.…
Detective Comics foray into the Knight Terrors event focuses in on Jim Gordon rather than Batman himself, and takes a look at Gotham and Jim’s role in stewarding it through the years, and all the insecurities that come with a lifetime spent trying to save one city. The book opens on a snowy day in…
Say, do you folks have any treasured holiday traditions? Things you do with family or friends that really just bring a smile to your face? Something that, if you didn’t do it, it wouldn’t really be the holidays? For me, that thing is watching movies. My mom raised me on the old Rankin Bass Christmas…
This month the action really picks up in Detective Comics as Batman races to deal with the attack on the Orgham family. The fun doesn’t stop there as old faces from this run show up again, in new and surprising ways. I’m really enjoying this run of Detective Comics by Ram V. It’s ticking away…
Urban Legends is consistently one of the best books I have the pleasure of reviewing. Especially with the last few, we've been given nothing but banger after banger stories, and there's ZERO signs of slowing down here. In fact, I'm so excited about these, I can't think of a proper intro. Let's jump in. Castle Arkham: On…
Detective Comics #1062 is the opening act of Ram V’s time on the book. Promising operatic darkness, and a new enticing mystery this arc –and run– is sure to be an interesting one. I’m delighted to get a chance to review it, as Ram V is one of my favorite writers at DC right now.…
After a one month break The Joker is back to wrap up the series with its final issue. We left off last time with Batman staring down Jim Gordon asking the same question most readers probably were: What happened to the Joker? This issue promises to tell us that, and more. The final issue of…
After an action packed issue last month, I expected The Joker to slow down again this month, though I didn’t realize how much the narrative would grind to a halt. There are things I enjoyed about this issue, but too often I was frustrated and felt a little let down by the events playing out.…
At last, a book gives me a chance to really share my expertise: critiquing how a creative team chooses to represent my home state Texas. I’m kidding–mostly. It’s not often I get to see names and places I know as well as my own face in fiction, so there is some sense of ownership of…
After a break for backstory last month, this issue gets back to the main plot by diving headfirst into the Sampson family’s motivations and exploring Jim’s fate. With a return to the present, will the momentum pick back up or will it continue to meander forward? Let’s see. It is refreshing to be back in…
