8 on Batman: The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #8 ReviewThe Last Halloween returns after three-month break with issue #8. For this issue, Becky Cloonan steps in to do the interior artwork. This sequel series to The Long Halloween has been really hit-or-miss for me so far, so does this issue get my interest back on the right track? Let’s get into it. Issue #8…
Knight Terrors: Nightwing #2 is an improvement over last month’s issue, but cannot fully break free of its overwhelming feeling of irrelevance. No new ideas are presented as Becky Cloonan’s and Michael W. Conrad’s script instead favors embracing a wackier atmosphere instead of doubling down on the more grim psychoanalysis of the previous script. With…
Knight Terrors: Nightwing #1 is a stylish, yet simplistic exploration of Dick Grayson’s psyche as he confronts the possibility of being a murderer. The set up allows Daniele Di Nicuolo’s art to shine, but Becky Cloonan’s and Michael W. Conrad’s script offers no surprises or compelling insight into the title character. Right from the start,…
Batgirls enters its final issue this month as it wraps up a short arc focused on The Hill, the people within, and the Batgirls place in all of it. As the series comes to close, it strives to tie together themes and ideas from the series, as well as the arc itself. Let’s take a…
Last month Batgirls began the final arc in its run. The focus this time is on The Hill and the community that resides there as they react to a shocking sniper attack and rally to protect those they care about. This issue takes all that and builds on it, bringing together much of the cast…
Batgirls moves into a new arc this month, focusing on crime situated in The Hill, the Batgirls' home and main location they strive to protect. The crime in question is a sniper, and as the girls investigate they learn more about the place they’ve come to call home, and the others living there. I’ll start…
With last month’s silent issue leading up to a promised confrontation between the Batgirls and Cluemaster, this one only has to fill in the blanks of Stephanie’s time with her dad while Cass was searching for her. The series has been intent on creating building up an emotional confrontation between child and parent, so lets…
After a couple issues where the Batgirls were body-swapped the girls have finally returned to their own bodies. With Stephanie still in the hands of Cluemaster, it’s up to Cassandra to save her. And what better way to do that, than with a silent issue? This issue of Batgirls has no spoken text at all.…
The Batgirls have found themselves in quite the situation this month. After swapping bodies and being kidnapped by their own parents, just what are Steph and Cass going to do to get to the bottom of this whole mess? I wish I could say this issue took the Batgirls Annual and built upon it in…
It’s time for Batgirls to have its first annual! With more space to tell its story, and an extra issue this month, Batgirls dives deep into the lives of two of its titular Batgirls, Stephanie and Cassandra, and looks at the parents who shaped them in a very Freaky Friday kind of way. So, let’s…
The mystery of the Hill Ripper continues in this month’s Batgirls. Their investigation deepens as outside sources give them help and support. Additionally their relationships grow and change in their day to day lives. I mentioned this in my last review, but I feel like with this arc the story is finding a groove that…
Batgirls #10 continues the girl’s investigation into the Hill Ripper and who killed their neighbor. The story feels light and fun, and keeps the detective work split evenly between Barbara on her own, and Steph and Cass. For me, something in Batgirls clicked this issue. We’re ten issues and a couple arcs in, and I…
Batgirls continues this month with it’s more focused narrative, aiming it’s story at just a few elements rather than trying to tackle everything and the kitchen sink. Last month they wrapped up the plotline focused on Seer and the Saints and now time for the Batgirls to move onto a new mystery: Just who is…
After dropping Seer off at their door, and promising to help her the Batgirls finish making good on that agreement this month as they wrap up this two part mini-arc. Featuring not only the Batgirls, but Nightwing as well, it’s sure to be a fun one. I enjoyed issue #8 of Batgirls. It’s not perfect,…
Now that Batgirls has wrapped up its first arc, the story is moving forward at a steady pace into its next one. Last issue ended with Seer literally knocking at the girls' door, one of their enemies having come straight to them. Will they hear out her plea for help, or send her packing? Already…
Batgirls is at the end of its first arc, and what an opening story it’s been. Packed full of new locations, bad guys, and adventure the girls have been more than busy. Let’s see how all the pieces of their first puzzle come together, shall we? This issue of Batgirls pretty much picks up right…
My excitement over Batgirls seems to be dwindling with every issue I pick up. Five issues in and I feel like the plot is in roughly the same place it was at the very start, which doesn't make for a very exciting story. The Batgirls are still fighting the same set of villains they were…
With the Batgirls making headway into their investigation into Tutor last issue, will they finally catch him this time around? And what about all those other villains they keep tangling with, will they make any progress finding them this month? We’re four issues into Batgirls and honestly? It still doesn't feel like it knows what…
The Batgirls are busy busy busy as they try to settle into their new home, and unravel the many mysteries surrounding them. Last month they made some headway on that, but were interrupted at the end by Tutor hypnotizing a crowd of people and even Stephanie! Just what is going on here? This issue continues…
With the first issue of Batgirls behind us, I find myself excited to see where this series is going. Issue #1 got the trio together up, and left off with the exciting introduction of some antagonists. This next issue promises to build off all that and give us even more fun than the first, so…
