7 on Lazarus Planet: Alpha #1 reviewBuilt on the back of the narrative started in Batman/Superman: World's Finest and Batman Vs. Robin, Mark Waid infects the entire DC magical Universe with a massive story about the conflict between fathers and sons. Can We Save The Planet? Lazarus Planet begins with Batman's failure and the destruction of Lazarus Island by King Fire…
Well, it's finally here. The final issue of Urban Legends. I have to say, I'll be really sad to see this series go. We've had highs and lows, for sure, but man, those highs were high. We got some genuinely great stories out of this thing, like the Question/Batman team-up, the super fun Ace and friends storyline,…
Happy New Year! Dark Knights of Steel has returned with a literal vengeance on the heels of it's ninth issue. After the bizarre murder of Hippolyta in front of everyone, the three kingdoms descend into violent hysteria. Although, this doesn't quite address the mounting questions about what kind of evil they are actually facing. It…
How redeemable can you make a villain? That's a rhetorical question, of course. The fluid nature of storytelling means that you can do whatever you please with a villain: an antagonist can be good, evil and anywhere in between. Nor is "redeemability" some sort of hard metric: when Darth Vader can still become one with…
It's time to dive back into Gotham with our favorite vigilantes! A quick aside before we get started, I've been playing the Heroic Assault raids in Gotham Knights: The Game the Comic the Game, and they're a lot of fun! I teamed up with some friends, and we were able to clear most of the floors…
After last month’s rather chilly ending to the main issue, and flash to the past during the annual, Detective Comics continues its exploration of Gotham’s past, and future with this latest installment. With the addition of Mr. Freeze into the mix, and the Orghams taking more and more steps to control Gotham, things are sure…
The so-called tales of life and death approach its fourth chapter of the story. In this harrowing edition, Batman finally catches up with Killer Croc as the Penguin finds Robin in his clammy clutches! McNicholas' Batman has mostly just faced goons, assassins, and spunky teenagers, but now he has to reason with Killer Croc. In…
Alexis Kaye has come to play! ...Supposedly! After the harrowing events of Gotham Game #2 and Catwoman #50, Punchline has slowed down considerably. Despite telling anyone who listens that she knows exactly what she's doing, Punchline is struggling with being in over her head. What is the game anyway? Although confidently bossing her gang around,…
The colorfully explosive final chapter of DC: Mech brings the story to a close. With all five mechs upgraded, the Justice Squadron heads out to destroy Darkseid and the Anti-Life Engine once and for all! Or at least just indulge in some giant robot battles. What did you expect? Much of the actual plot comes…
This is it! Beginning when Andrew Bennett couldn't keep his woman in check, DC Vs. Vampires' drives the bloodshed to a surprisingly domestic conclusion. As Batgirl's forces make a play at The Dark King, everyone else scrambles to fight back the vampire horde. Hunters, Killers, And All-Out War Let's start with John Constantine. This story…
[SPOILER WARNING: This review will spoil the entirety of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths.] Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 is the final issue in what began as the Dark Crisis event - concluding every story thread that began with Infinite Frontier, along with establishing new setup for the tales to come. Written by Joshua Williamson and…
I can't believe this series is almost over! I'll save most of my retrospective and pining for more for the final review, but just know that there will be plenty. For now, let's take a look at this surprisingly stellar penultimate issue, because this series refuses to fade out quietly. Nightwing Presenting: The Director, Part…
Batman vs. Robin #4 is an action packed, emotionally resonant penultimate chapter that expertly brings together various threads from the series into a satisfying brawl. Mahmud Asrar and Scott Godlewski turn in excellent art that deliver the high stakes goods, while also deftly handling Waid’s melodramatic tendencies. The first three pages clearly establish the current…
Catwoman #50 is an energetic, but also unwieldy finale that seeks to wrap up as many plot threads as possible by its final pages. I appreciate Tini Howard’s script letting loose and giving readers a good dose of action, however its most important character beats largely fall flat. It doesn’t help having three different artists…
Solicited as the grand finale to the DC Vs. Vampires spin-off, All-Out War #5 ends the same way it began. Licking their wounds from a bittersweet battle, the team desperately attempts one last Hail Mary before giving up completely. Where we last left off, the survivors had entirely botched Constantine's plans to bring the sun…
Ghost-Maker's Batman Inc. is a disaster spiraling out of control. The simple mission of tracking down a murderer has turned into an international mess. While readers get a reveal of the killer's origin and motives, Ghost-Maker and his team fruitlessly scramble to keep up. Firstly, this issue focuses on who Phantom-One is and why he…
As Christmas gets closer, and we approach the end of our gift guide posts, you may still be on the lookout for a few other items to round out your holiday shopping. One thing that falls by the wayside all too often are gifts for stockings, which shouldn't ever be the case. I mean, grab…
There will always be new Batman products, be it toys or books or comics or any number of other collectibles. Go into practically any store and you’ll find something with Batman on it, even if it’s a shirt or some bedsheets. Batman is a pop culture force, and with that comes endless opportunities for merchandising.…
Say, do you folks have any treasured holiday traditions? Things you do with family or friends that really just bring a smile to your face? Something that, if you didn’t do it, it wouldn’t really be the holidays? For me, that thing is watching movies. My mom raised me on the old Rankin Bass Christmas…
Ahh, Christmas. A time for love, laughter, family, and-- if you’re anything like teenage Cam (that's me, I'm Cam)-- hiding away from it all upstairs playing video games while the adults talk and do the dishes. For me, the Arkham games that got me through the most trying holiday seasons. But now, I’m older. Jaded. Roped…
