2 on Batman vs. Robin #2 reviewBatman vs. Robin #2 delivers a spectacle of exposition, clearly establishing the stakes and motivations of every character. It’s a risky endeavor, but Mahmud Asrar’s sense of style and Mark Waid’s sense of humor elevate what could have been a dry read into a thrilling, and often funny, chapter. Right from the start, Waid’s script…
Welp. It's here. The last issue of Jurassic League. That can't be right, right? If it's the last issue, that means there's no more, and if there's no more... No. No, I won't let that happen. The cool dinosaur comic cannot end. How am I supposed to go on with no Jurassic League left to review?…
At long last, Grant Morrison's Batman Incorporated finally returns! This time the team is no longer under Bruce Wayne's benevolent oversight, and is now led by Batman's infamous rival Ghost-Maker. However, the new regime hasn't made any believers out of its members nor the readers yet. To make matter's worse, a highly-skilled killer targets Batman's…
DC's Gotham City panel began at 10.45am: the latest update for fans about what's going on in the world of Batman. People began their Sunday morning a little drowsy, but that energy quickly resurfaced once the panel truly began. Ben Abernathy, an executive editor at DC, introduced the panelists: Frank Tieri, Meghan Fitzmartin, Ram V,…
So I've finally sat down at my hotel in New York, New York. Casper and Cam are trying to order food, the rest of the Batman News team are sending their best wishes, and I'm recovering from the jet lag of three flights over thirty hours, which was delayed due to being stuck in customs.…
After introducing Harvey Dent into the mystery, Ram V continues to develop his narrative here in Detective Comics #1064. This time he has new questions for Batman and the readers, and focuses deeper on characters like Talia and Bruce’s relationship. I am enjoying Detective Comics more and more with each issue I read written by…
As the enemies from the stars draw near, the warriors of Earth have their first team mission experience. In this issue, Superman believes it is his birthright to lead. However, unless they can work together, they will remain ill-equipped in confronting the dastardly plans of intergalactic despots or Lex Luthor. Every issue of DC: Mech…
Say what you will about Urban Legends, but I'm always at the very least excited to crack it open and see what we have. An anthology series like this can be a big risk, and as I've said many times before, isn't always worth your money, but when it gets good it gets GOOD. Urban Legends #19…
Batman vs. Robin #1 overcomes most of the pitfalls a “versus” title faces at its very conception. I don’t like seeing heroes fight each other, but the return of a fan favorite character and aggressive pacing allows Mark Waid and Mahmud Asrar to cut to the chase and deliver equal parts spectacle and character drama.…
Damn it. Alright Flashpoint Beyond, back it up. You had me for a while here, but now you're really losing me. I can't in good conscience spend an entire review trashing Dark Crisis, and not subject you to the same scrutiny when you carry the same issues. Flashpoint Beyond #5 opens on a perversely funny scene, when it wastes…
My Dungeons and Dragons session got cancelled today, and I'm blaming it all on Dark Crisis. Oh, sorry. Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths, apparently. I find it funny how excited DC was to market this name change - before it even happened in the story, no less! It makes a gal wonder if I should bother using a…
To be honest, I've kind of been struggling to figure out how to properly introduce this thing. Lee Bermejo is one of my favorite Batman artists, and certainly one of the most prolific ever to touch the character. As such, a book that serves as a showcase for his work is a surefire hit. Every…
Dark Knights of Steel: Tales From The Three Kingdoms features an anthology of three young adult tales set within the Knights of Steel universe. Tom Taylor, Jay Kristoff, and C.S Pacat transport readers to a simpler time before the war between kingdoms breaks out. Each adventure follows orphans or members of the El family in…
In the latest issue of DC: Mech, the human race seeks salvation from evil space invaders in the form of giant mech suits. However, Earth’s heroes brawl among themselves when one spaceman decides to offer his help. The story starts with the introduction of three new characters. Firstly, pilots John Stewart and Hal Jordan become…
Last month Ram V began his run on Detective Comics by plunging Batman into a strange new case involving ancient artifacts and people turning into monsters all while surrounding it in an operatic tone. This month he works to further those mysteries, and the personal questions he's challenged Batman with. Much like the previous…
Okay. I'm gonna be honest. I already had thoughts about this back when it was announced. Mostly thoughts of "oh god no", "boy they sure want to milk The Killing Joke for all it's worth, huh?", and "oh god please no why are you making The Riddler kill people why oh god oh god." The Riddler is…
Nightwing #95 is a shining example of playing into the strengths of the superhero comic medium. There’s a healthy dose of high stakes action and fun cameos, while still maintaining the series’ emotional integrity. Tom Taylor’s script make this delicate balance look effortless, as do Bruno Redondo’s exquisite pencils. Taylor’s latest scripts deliver a high…
Catwoman #46 is an emotionally resonant, if not haphazardly plotted chapter that prioritizes Selina’s understanding of herself, particularly in regards to her romantic relationships. The core narrative is underwhelming at this point as it features villains without an ounce of true intimidation. Nonetheless, Tini Howard’s angle on Selina is compelling and Sami Basri’s pencils deliver…
If you're a comics fan, chances are you've seen a character or scene in a book and thought "I wish that was a toy." Well, McFarlane Toys are certainly doing their part to bring us as many action figures and sets as they can, all based on our favorite DC Comics properties. Here we have…
Flashpoint Beyond has earned enough goodwill for me to forgive the occasional misstep. I wouldn't say this is a bad issue, but it deviated a little from what actually interested me about the book - getting lost in the weeds, rather than appreciating the garden as a whole. Let's get into why! The Clockwork Killer…
