Cass wants retribution but as more unexpected secrets get revealed, more enemies…
In part two of “The Book of Shiva” arc, Cassandra continues to read the diary that her mother left her. After going over her tragic beginnings, Shiva now recounts her and her sister’s journey to America. Along that journey, the sisters encounter some of the most fearsome martial artists in all of the DC Universe…
After coming off the epic and tragic finale of the “Mother” arc, Batgirl #7 finds Cassandra Cain learning more about Lady Shiva’s history. What secrets will she find out about her mother? Isaac Goodhart steps in as guest artist for this two-issue arc that covers the origin of Lady Shiva. Here are my thoughts. I…
In the last issue, Cassandra Cain attempted to rescue her mother, Lady Shiva, from the clutches of the Unburied. Unfortunately, she was unsuccessful and ended up getting captured as well. Now, both mother and daughter need to work together once more to escape before they meet their death sentence. Issue #5 was my favorite of…

Even though their relationship has been tumultuous to say the least, Batgirl does care about her mother and is now in hot pursuit of her captors. Will Cass be able to save Shiva before…
In the last issue of Batgirl, Cassandra and Lady Shiva were fleeing from Gotham on a train to regroup and come up with a plan to confront the Unburied. That led them to meeting up with Nyssa al Ghul (who’s back from the dead somehow) and a couple of associates of the League of Shadows.…
New year. New Batgirl issue. When we last left Batgirl, she and her mother, Lady Shiva, were ambushed by the mysterious monk-warriors, the Unburied, led by their leader Kalden. Cassandra Cain is getting the spotlight in her first solo Batgirl series in nearly two decades. Writer Tate Brombal, artist Takeshi Miyazawa, and colorist Mike Spicer team up to bring this story to life. Cassandra Cain was the first ever Batgirl to get her own solo series back in 2000 after her spectacular debut in the No Man's Land event. It ran for over 70 issues before she eventually gave up the mantle to Stephanie Brown in 2009. Since that time, who "is" and "isn't" Batgirl became somewhat of…
Batgirl #50 is an oversized issue, that both finishes off Castelluci's run, and features two extra one shots featuring Batgirl. Each story is written by Castlluci and has different artists on each story and since they're all so different I'll review each one (the last two briefly since they are short) and give an overall…
Batgirl #49 dives headfirst into having the Gordons investigate the murder of a Batgirl as well as continues to explore their current, highly dysfunctional, relationships. I’m going to come right out and say that I did not enjoy this issue. The more I’ve looked at it to write this review, the more frustrated I’ve become…

The Joker War comes spinning out of Batman and into the pages of Batgirl this month as Barbara Gordon comes face to face with Joker once again. I’m having trouble figuring out how to properly start this review. It attempts to be a ‘response’ to The Killing Joke, unfortunately, I don’t feel it was handled…
