UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that multiple sources have said that no such meeting happened between Phillips and Emmerich, and that no additional origin movies are in play. The same sources informed Deadline that no talks have begun in regards to a sequel.

Todd Phillips may not quite be done with the Joker or DC in general quite yet.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Todd Phillips walked into Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich's office on Oct. 7 with a huge idea. It seems that he wants to develop an entire portfolio of films that tell the origin stories of various DC characters.
Reportedly Emmerich balked at the idea, but Phillips has secured the rights to one more unknown character. In addition, As Joker has now passed $1 billion at the box office, he is in talks to return for a sequel. He will return as director as well as co-write the script again with Scott Silver.
As to if Joaquin Phoenix will return to the role, Warner Bros. does have an option on his contract for a sequel, so it appears he will return.
The question, of course, is where this story will go. It is doubtful it will interact in any way with Matt Reeves The Batman, or Batman in general. We'll just have to wait and see, but there is no clue yet on how far out it is.
The bigger question is: Who is the mystery character Phillips reportedly got the rights to?
