Earlier this month, The Batman director Matt Reeves turned in his first draft of the script. It's been a couple of weeks, and The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez has an update.

According to Gonzalez, Warner Bros. "loves" the script that Reeves has turned in for The Batman. He is still tweaking it a bit, but the hope is that the movie will be able to start production by next summer. This lines up with Reeves' own comments, who said last month that he was hoping to start shooting by the spring or summer of 2019. Gonzalez also says that DC Films president Walter Hamada and his team are committed to getting Batman right.

Reeves' script for The Batman reportedly focuses on a younger version of the Dark Knight. There have been a lot of rumors, but no concrete reports as to who may be the favorite for the role.

          Third grade me liked it. Adult me still has a special place in my heart for it because it takes me back to seeing it in theaters on the edge of my seat. Adult me also likes Adam West and Burt Ward and it falls in that realm to be honest... eh.

        Lol no the general public likes good movies even the amazing spider man 2 could do the numbers Spidey films usually do because it sucked. It doesn’t matter what fucking character is in the film. BvS didn’t do a billion and it SHOULD have because guess what? Besides the Synder fans, the people that go and see these films a few times no matter how bad it is because their favourite character is in it the GP and critics thought it sucked!
        The last two Batman films before it made one billion each, the first film with Superman and Batman in it should have easily passed one billion.

          HUH? That makes no sense at all. Don't say something baseless like "Batman his cinematic credibility back" when you said it yourself it made less than Superman Returns and Man of Steel. At the time when Batman was released nobody cared for it. It took The Dark Knight to put Batman back on the map. Man of Steel, never had it's "Dark Knight" movie, instead WB took it's DC property and it's fans for granted and rushed the wholly bad BvS and JL starring the world's worst C-type actor, (the drunk) Ben Affleck.

            I think you’re underselling Batman Begins. It didn’t kick box office ass like the other 2 films, but it’s been highly praised and did rebound the franchise following Batman & Robin. Some people consider TDK to be better, but it was the positive word of mouth from Begins that bolstered the desire for the sequel.

            Not to mention it provided the ‘reset’ button idea for other franchises.

          Both Batman Begins & MoS gained steam in DvD and stream. You'd be surprise how many people love MoS now. The problem with MoS not getting a sequel is budget. I think it was $70mill more than Batman Begins. And the failure of Snyder and WB with BvS & JL didn't help at all.

            i mean if you are going by Rotten Tomatoes, technically even the majority of critics gave it a positive review. Either way, in my own experience, most people seem to have at least thought it was decent.

          People liking MoS isn't that rare. People loving the film is. But most of the people I've encountered like the movie.

            What are you on about? Box Office doesn't dictate movie quality. Otherwise the Transformers movies are probably some of the best movies ever. But they aren't. MoS is objectively better than every single Transformers movie except for maybe one of them. But I'd still put it above all of them. And MoS even on its release had more people liking it than not. And that's shown also by how amazing the DvD sales for it are.

            A second weekend box office drop means jack shit. Avengers infinity war had a near 60% drop. Doesn't mean people didn't like it.

            Its so funny how people on these sites remember each other for their opinions, and develop grudges. Reads to me like you are doing a lot of tap-dancing. I mean whats the point here youve been trying to make, Vlach? I still like Man of Steel, and I remember all of my friends liking it when it came out (but also all of us were clear on its many flaws), but I think everything Spike Spiegel is saying up there is spot-on.

            This especially: "it's classic Americana, ingrained in our cultural identity. That can be capitalized on. It can be brought to the surface, and those very feelings of wonder which Superman I&II were so effective at instilling in their audiences of the day can be instilled in the audience today. It happens all the time."

            I mean that was the whole point of arguing in this thread. Is that really controversial? It is pretty clear that the Superman in Man of Steel isnt the Superman that is recognizable in the heartbeat of American culture. Its a solid movie, but it was also a movie that was made riding off of the coattails of a franchise that BB kicked off. BB had no coattails to ride off of; it was just another 2000s studio dice-roll, just like Catwoman, Daredevil, Constantine, Catwoman, Hulk, The Punisher, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, and Catwoman. Batman Begins was either going to be a Catwoman creative successor or another Spider-Man/X-Men success. Things were more random back then because the iPad didnt exist yet and studios werent hiring nerd armies. But, anywho, my point is that Man of Steel only came into existence as a thematic afterthought of the very successful people who wrote The Dark Knight, and clearly not as an idea to make a Superman movie for the sake of making a movie about Superman. Count me as an advocate for the latter.

        well I certainly want other characters to have movies. WB really could make a ton of money off of purely a Batman cinematic universe though. The mythology is just so extensive and popular. This new joker movie is already getting a bunch of buzz

      I mean, they just attempted two Superman movies. They just unfortunately did not work out the way they'd hoped.

      The unfortunate reality is that Batman has a much more reliable history critically and commercially than Superman, since almost every Superman film after Superman II has either been "divisive," flat out critically panned, an underperformer at the box office, or all three.

      They need to wait until they find a new creative team who can really take the character and run with him.

        Ok, but the fault does not lie with the Superman character or the actor who played him (Cavill). The fault lies in the story, which WB put in the hands of a comic book director and subpar actor in Ben Affleck "The Drunk".

        People have to realize, what Christopher Nolan did, t that comic book movies don't work. However, good movies with comic book characters DO WORK. Hopefully Matt Reeves can take the characters of the Batman Universe and make a good detective movie out of it and stay away from the smokey air gothic looking Gotham City that Burton, Shumacher, and Snyder all did.

      I think MOS was wonderfully shot but they screwed it by rushing an avenger esque marketing agenda to rival marvel. two or three of the Donner super man films are to me great, along with MOS. Not a complete bad innings

    Matt Bomer is 40, but could pass for 30’s. He was my choice for Bruce before they casted Ben. Unless Reeves is going for Year One storyline, Matt could at least look the part of a Bruce in his prime.
    I’d personally rather see Jon Hamm or Karl Urban to keep continuity in the DCEU, but if they’re throwing everything Ben did out, go with someone who looks the part and has proven he can act.

      Actually, no he didn't. During costume tests, he looked perfect imo. But for some stupid reason they decided to increase the padding and effectively remove his neck. Look at how good he looked on the left. Where he and the suit where lighter.

          I disagree with most of these except the emblem. The short ears have always been my favorite and I actually like the belt being gold. Having said that though, I'd fucking love for a smaller emblem. Something like the Hush emblem or the Rebirth emblem and this suit would be perfect. I also actually don't care if the cowl has white eyes or not. It works regardless imo.

            I don't agree on the yellow at all. It isn't actual gold it's just golden metallic in color. And since he's supposed be a stealthy ninja that blends into the night, a yellow belt doesn't make that much sense imo. And on the eyes, I just don't agree. I love them in the comics and they can definitely be done ala Deadpool but if I'm being honest, nothing about the is that scary in real life. Especially since they'd have to glow 24/7 if you'd want them to appear in pitch black

            Yellow makes sense for him to quickly identify his utilty belt. Doesn't have to be bright crazy comic yellow. I imagine a yellowish gray faded but still minimally contrasted.

            The eyes don't have to glow, they just have to appear non human. Hard to describe what I am picturing since it hasn't been done on film before.

            In the comics it often comes off him, villains take it, he might lose it etc, having it a distinctive color would make it easily identifiable which is useful.

            My point was that it should be a pale yellow both to be accurate and to be quickly identifiable. The color served a purpose just like the yellow bat symbol served a purpose in year one.

            Wanting accuracy is fine. I can respect that. But, a dark gold metallic utility belt is very unique and identifiable. In fact, it makes a lot more sense imo because it would blend in a lot better in the shadows with the rest of his look since he is supposed to be a master or stealth and 2 it can't be burned because it's metallic.

            Would I want to see an actual yellow pouched utility belt in the films? Yes, of course especially if it's a cool nod to the comics. But in no way does it make more practical sense.

            A pale greyish yellow belt easily stands out in poorly lighted conditions. Fabric could be flame retardant also like his cape is. Not an issue.

    Reeves himself debunked the rumor that his story is based off Year 1. He further confirmed that it is an original detective/noir perspective-driven story.
    So why are we still saying it’s a “younger version of the dark knight”?

    Of course the WB suits love the script, it's because they can meddle with it if they don't like what Reeves produces just like they did Justice League. So Reeves definitely needs to be on point with this film. If he's not, then we get another 2 hour send up thanks to the suits and then everybody will clammer for the Reeves cut.....MARTHA!!!!!

            The one and primary thing I love from the DCEU Batman is his look. He just currently looks like shit. That's it.

      please Ben stay on and please Henry work something out with WB. we have our team we just need better story telling and visuals. the way Snyder made them look was well, bu the story telling was just too devisive

    What the hell do you need to concentrate about Venom or Bumblebee? I'm concentrating on not watching them in a theater even by accident..

      I haven't seen any promo for Bumblebee but all the previous Transformer films ruined the nostalgia from my childhood, and Venom just doesn't seem so interesting as a film that needs any concentration. I don't think it will be great, it might be ok, but my biggest bet is that it's going to be bad.
