Rumor: Warner Bros. wants Henry Cavill's Superman to be like Marvel's Nick Fury

on Rumor: Warner Bros. wants Henry Cavill's Superman to be like Marvel's Nick Fury

Last year while promoting Justice League, Henry Cavill said that he had one more movie left on his Superman contract. In a new interview yesterday at CinemaCon, Cavill couldn't recall if he has one more movie or not, but Collider claims to have some interesting new details on Cavill's future as Superman.

According to Collider, Cavill has been in negotiations with Warner Bros. about extending his Superman contract beyond the one movie he has left. The plan is to make Superman the "glue" that connects all of the DCEU movies together. Collider says the hope is that Superman will make "small, but memorable, appearances" in the movies, much like Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has done in the Marvel movies. Collider notes that while they heard this from "very reliable sources", they haven't been able to get 100% confirmation, so treat this as a rumor for now.

Cavill is already rumored to be showing up as Superman in Shazam, so perhaps there's something to this new rumor. Who knows, maybe he could even make a surprise cameo in the Aquaman credits later this year too.

    eh, I think that's a role more fitting for Batman (and I thought it was going to be like that), although I don't oppose this, he can be that beacon for everybody.

      no it is not. It would be very out of character for Batman. There is a reason why Batman does not like to leave Gotham. He is not a team guy. Nor is the inspiring hero beacon. Superman is that guy. Batman was always the one rejecting to work with others unless absolutely necessary. He does not go around trying to be bring people together. That is just not Batman.

        While i agree that Superman is a much better choice for this role than Batman, the idea that Batman is not a ¨team guy¨ is not really accurate in comic book lore. He was one of the founders of the Justice League; when that did not worked he created The Outsiders; when that did not worked he created a new justice league, called Justice League International (both in the 80s version and in the current ReBirth run). He even created his own world wide super batmen group in the Batman Incorporated story arc. Here he went out of his way in selecting people for joining the franchise. And most recently, you can see how is he doing making a super hero team out of the bat family in the pages of Detective Comics. The thing with him is that he always fail in keeping the group together because he has horrible people skills. Thats why Supes is better for the job.

          Batman is only a team guy when he's forced to acknowledge he needs help, and that's something he does begrudgingly and of last resort, when he's truly desperate and has no other choice. At least in the modern lore. A few stories written for the sake of plot do not change this.

        Disagree a tad here. it's true that he is more of a loner and doesn't like to leave Gotham (and it's not the beacon like Superman can be), but he recruits people when it's necessary and we have seen that a lot of times: Bat-family, Outsiders, JLA... ANd anyway he was already doing that in the JL movie, too, so...

        I actually disagree and say objectively you're flat out wrong, as others have pointed out Bats has been in and founded many teams. Come on Robin has been a near constant in his crime fighting career and he's the main leader of the Justice League, he's always out there creating teams and watching over them. As for leaving Gotham well Batman Incorporated has Bruce traveling the world and training new "Batmen" while he left Dick as Gotham's Batman and it was revealed in Rebirth that he built a Bat base on the fucking Moon, yes Gotham is his home and the place he prefers most but that's no different then Barry with Central City, Ollie with Star City or Clark with Metropolis.

        which is why Batman is on the membership of the JL , JLA , has four FOUR sons in the family business , numerous other 'acolytes' and could restart the Outsiders, he surrounds himself with people because he doesnt want to be alone , its something he has tasted and never wants again.

        Superman is the BIG icon , but Batman is the glue of the DC'verse , he sees things in DC that the others dont.

        Personally I would like him to be used less , but he s the MVP , money maker for DC , so is used in this manner.

      Batman has always been more of a loner anyways. Superman is the one to lead the team, and he should be the central figure of the DCEU. I say this as a massive Batman fan, and it's precisely because I love the character, that I want them to stay faithful to him and not pretend that Batman is suddenly some great team player who has no problem showing up, in public. It's just not a role that really fits Batman. But it does fit Superman pretty good. I just hope we get a MoS 2... soon ;p

    That would be the right move. Superman is the greatest superhero of all time. Making him the one to bring together the DCU (and NOT Batman who was always more of a loner) will always make the most sense.

        its subjective...batman is a vigilante, superman is basically a god. People in gotham do not revere and look up to Batman like the rest of the world looks at Superman.

          Superman is not a god, no matter how hard Snyder pictures him as such.

          Secondly, just because he's less scary than Batman does not aumautomatically make him grestest superhero of all-time.

          If there's any criteria to decide which character is the greatest. Then, it should be marketability and number of fans. He's not even close. Every movie he's been in has underperformed at the BO since 70s. No wonder why WB are hesitant to make the sequel.

            It doesn't matter what the fans think, what matters is what the people in the comics percieve these characters as. Noone in Gotham has even seen Batman, he's basically a myth, he's probably the farthesething from a superhero to those people. Superman on the other hand is basically a higher power that interacts with normal people in metropolis, saving them from harm and getting their cats off of trees. The fact that he can destroy the world, a world that's not even his own, in an instant and chosses not to do so makes him one of the greatest superheroes on the planet.

        The Bat Family wasn't even created by Batman himself; he didn't go to each one and asked them to join his superteam. In fact, the Bat Family is not even a canon name; it's what fans took to calling every Batman supporting hero and it kinda stuck.

      What are you talking about? Copying Marvel clearly didn´t work for JL, and the WB management already stated that it was a bad idea to copy the Marvel formula. And Superman being the center of the DCEU metanarrative should be cause for celebration, since he never really got a chance to shine in the previous movies (except Man of Steel, but that´s just my opinion).

            Superman never was the symbol of hope in MOS. He let his dad die, he was depressed his whole life, his friends were killed, too many city destructions, etc. It didn’t seem he cared to whatever was happening around him. They need to change that with cameos. There is no balance. I actually liked him in JL. Seemed like the superhero we needed. But still an awful movie. I still believe there will be another one sometime soon but not until 2020.

      A cameo is not necessarily a team up. The hero can have his own movie, Superman can just appear to give some inspiring words and leave that character to do his own thing.

    I actually suggested this in another post. I think it would make perfect sense after all.."the world needs Superman and the team needs Clark".

    Have him show up in each solo movie and have a really cool interaction with the main character but in a way that makes sense. It also has to serve the story and not just be shoehorned in or done in a way that makes the main character look lame in their own movie.

    I'm all for it. As long as we still get a MoS2 and 3.

        Absolutely correct. Just listen to Cavil's interviews lately. He is willing to carry this Universe on his back. He wants to be the real-life Superman for the DC world, hardcore fans, etc. This is where Affleck disappoints me, and the Sadffleck thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.

        With that said in mind, there wouldn't be a need for the Justice League at all if Supes' was still alive during the time being that Steppenwolf engaged in War. Overall, JL was a pointless concept if Supes can do what he did in that film.

          Exactly. I always found Superman boring while growing up because he was ridiculously overpowered. Snyder took it whole new level. In fact, he made him the fastest man alive, too. He easily surpassed Flash. Snyder buried other characters to make Superman even stronger than he is. Look at Marvel, they made main characters fight it out, but nobody came out too weak or strong.

    Man of Steel 2, or GTFO!😂 Wonder Woman being the "Nick Fury" of the DCEU, would've been SO COOL, and made so much sense! SHE'S the glue with the personality and time, to travel the world recruiting heroes. Updated DCEU headcanon: Diana was investigating Superman, Batman, Lex, and metahumans, prior to BvS.

      Batman does bring people together though, in his own tactical and standoffish way lol

      I see absolutely no reason why Tower of Babel can’t happen with this Batman. I love that story, truly, and I think it would work fine.

      No one is what you just described, though. Batman is a redeemed man who wants to honor Superman’s memory and protect his planet out of a sense of duty and guilt, Wonder Woman is doing the right thing and is finding meaning again for her own worldview through coming together with this team, Cyborg is an outsider who has found the blessing to his curse in being able to help through this condition he has, Flash has found fellowship and direction for his life, and Aquaman has discovered a cause greater than himself to contribute to through this. None are this archetype you’re talking about. And I don’t think “chummy” is the right word either. I’m not sure how Batman bringing the League together makes it “flat,” but I wouldn’t say it’s fair to judge BvS’ setup on JL’s execution, not until we see the Snyder Cut.

      I just really love the idea of Batman having authority over all these gods among men. Sure I also love the “part time” attitude he has in other stories, too, though. They’re both great angles the character can have as a role in this team. But having him be more of a leader really validates his place on such a team and shows his value to it in clearly being the tactical superior to his fellow Leaguers.

        BvS: UC is my favorite CBM. Just saying that in a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, like when they reboot the DCEU in 10-15 years, make Bats the brooding loner, save for a handful of very close, human colleagues. To get Bats to join the League, it essentially has to be an extinction-level event for him to trust gods.

    I like Batman doing it better myself :/ Well, I like him building a secret army of metahumans and leading the League and all that. But this actually sounds more like Superman is gonna be making cameos doing his own thing, just superhero-ing around, and that’s cool. Definitely makes sense for him, since he’s the most public public figure in the DCEU. I don’t know, this has potential if it turns out true, let’s just wait and see how things work out.

      I enjoyed the symbolic, emotionally-driven concept behind Bruce doing it, but it makes sense for Clark and Diana to do some recruiting too. :)

      He played his part by setting the stage. I'm content with that.

    I thought that role was going to be for Lex, but I would be very happy to see Superman in all future movies. Aside from WW, all the movies from the DCEU have been related to Superman, even SS. MoS 2 would make things even better.

    I don't think anyone in charge of DC knows what they're doing anymore. Just throw lots of money at big name directors to make our ideas into movies. Even though it takes forever for them to break even anymore.

    A little too late for that
    We've barely seen him interact with others and he now is the glue. We are gonna have to keep filling in holes, they keep making us assume things and pretend we all know what the relationship is between them cause, "we knoe who they are" while they still emphasize the fact that "these are different versions of the characters we know"
    Batman knows them more, he put the league together... how the hell is Superman the glue? WW if anything.
    I'm just saying it doesn't make sense anymore, I wish it was like that since the beginning. Everyone loves him, THEN he dies and you have the whole JL and the entire world mourning his death... but nah, let's kill him off while half the world hates him

        yes, because DC has to stop trying to imitate Marvel, it's pityful.
        DCEU is ridiculous.
        But I know I've reacted this way because I just came out of cinema after watching Infinity War, the movie has been so great that I laugh when I read about Dceu.

          When most people complain that they aren't doing things enough like Marvel, doesn't it make sense that they would then try to do things more like Marvel?

          I don't want it, myself, but the demand is there, and they've been brutalized by critics and fans for not being Marvel enough. They'd just be giving the majority what they want.
