'Wonder Woman' just passed 'Suicide Squad's' worldwide box office total

Wonder Woman already beat both Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman's US box office totals, but now it's officially the second biggest movie in the DCEU universe after passing Suicide Squad's $745.6 million worldwide total this weekend.

Wonder Woman has now made $745.8 million worldwide. And with it still opening in new countries in the coming weeks, that $800 million mark is certainly possible.

Here's where the DCEU movies currently rank in terms of worldwide box office:

Batman v Superman = $873.2M
Wonder Woman = $745.8M
Suicide Squad = $745.6M
Man of Steel = $668M

For those of you doing the math at home, Wonder Woman has helped push the DC Extended Universe movies passed the $3 BILLION mark.

Next target Guardians vol 2 domestic haul then $800M to cap off this incredible run. What's a success story. Who Would have thought that in a summer with Pirates, Transformers, Despicable Me, Cars , Spiderman and co. the very first Wonder Woman movie would have reach $800M?
This is a movie that some folks just in March were calling DOA because of the so called lack of marketing and it DCEU baggage. Huge win for WB huge win for Gadotand of course huge win for Patty!!!

Just know that the DCEU's bad rep seriously hurt Wonder Woman globally. Had it been riding a more positive wave, it would have probably cracked the $1B. Just think that Transformers 5 made over 200M in China while WW 100M. The potential was definitely there. WW 2 might just do it though, provided Justice League and Aquaman don't screw the pooch.

  Yeah, although I doubt a first entry movie like Wonder Woman could have made bigger business in China. However the great thing is that Wonder Woman had enough legs to triple it opening there which is pretty rare, China box office tend to be very front loaded, she definitely captured an audience that is bound to grow, so that definitely bodes well for the sequel and Justice League.

  I don't think foreign markets and even casual movie goes care about the online debates people have or the opinion of critics that much. Could it influence some people? Sure but not the majority that determines the box office.
  I'm not talking about you but I've noticed that some people will highlight how Wonder Woman couldn't reach $1B but forget that to movie goes outside the geek sphere, she's an unknown property at least not on the same level of Batman & Spider-Man.
  For instance, Doctor Strange made $677 million world wide but you don't see a similar conversation about the movie's box office performance. As for China, it's very hard to predict the outcome there especially when you look at how Rogue One flopped with an overall $69 million in comparison to Resident Evil's $94 million in its first week and $159 after the run ended.
  Does the conversation between fans and even some critics acknowledge that Rogue One flopped despite the attempt to pander to Chinese audiences? No becasue it compensated that box office shortcoming in other regions but that doesn't mean Lucasfilm & Disney don't have a Star Wars problem in China which has nothing to do with the quality of the films.

    First off, I saw numerous comments on YouTube and such from people based off North America that said that their friends didn't go see the movie because they were so monumentally disappointed with the DCEU. Secondly, BvS made 95M in China, and it had terrible reviews and crappy word of mouth. Is it so inconceivable to think that if it was better received (and thus more financially successful), it would have built greater hype for wonder woman? If Suicide Squad wasn't complete garbage and BvS was good, it might have pushed Wonder Woman beyond the 1B. It's not laughingly stupid, and if you still believe it is, then you have very little understanding in the power of a good brand.

      Yes, WW is doing great in the U.S., where it was expected to (maybe not that great, but still...) but there is still much to be desired internationally. $400M isn't that huge of a sum. For god's sake, F&F8 made over a billion internationally. Last Pirates made over half a billion with an aging wife-beating Depp and a pitiful RT score. I'm not saying WW's expected $800M tally is bad by any means. It's amazing! But had the DCEU been universally loved, the way MCU is... you see where I'm going with this?
      If not, then we're just beating a dead horse, and I shall end this discussion.

  We only had one fox x-men universe film this year so I think that helped this year. I think they are scheduling 3 next year I heard which could hurt the genre as a whole given they have a sort of track record of making bad and good films. I already expect X-men Dark Phoenix to probably be the worst superhero movie next year. (Simon Kingberg should just leave and let someone new and fresh takeover) Also heard about some new Fantastic four crap being made.

Wonderful! But I've always had the thought that rather than basing a movie's success off its haul of money, it should be judged by how many tickets sold.

With each passing year, movie tickets increase in price. Wouldn't per ticket sold rather than per dollar amount give us a better idea of which movie brought in the bigger audience?

    I don't think it's super easy to track that way, especially back in the day. Box Office Mojo can estimate how many tickets were sold domestically, though.

That's a great point, but regardless people will then argue it has to do with the economy, realease date, other external factors, etc. Fact is there's is no real way to judge which movie did best for the most part. Let's just take it at face value and have fun with it.

    Yeah, different markets like different things, that's why you see these movies making bank in one country but not in another. It's tough to create a movie that is loved by everyone world wide. Look at the Furious franchise, their last movie did not did too good, relatively speaking, in the U.S. but it did great internationally, let me not even get started in the Transformers franchise. Honestly, I just go by the U.S. numbers to judge given that I share similar point of views regarding what a good movie is.

    I like Squad more than i like WW. It´s actually my 2nd favorite DCEU film yet.
    I am now even starting to think that the 2009 toon film is a bit better than the still good WW 2017. It´s just not a re-watchable film to me. The 2nd viewing was certainly enough for me for years but that goes for nearly all traditional comic origin films.

  MoS got killed because someone thought it was a good idea to release it a week before Monsters University AND World War Z.
  But Suicide Squad thrived because it had no competition.

    All DCEU have been very successful, and with Wonder Woman and Justice League the streak isn't ending any time soon!

      When I read Marvel agenda based articles poking fun at MOS for its ticket sales or SS for being awful, I scoff at it.
      Marvel fans seem to forget the lack of quality with their beginning films. Hulk, Thor, IM 2... were bad films. And Marvel has others that didn't "cash in" at the box office.

      Man of Steel was poised to make over 800M after it's first weekend. It certainly got killed by more than 100M if you ask me.
      Also, "loved" is kind of an overstatement, unless people now suddenly love every Transformers movie, or every Pirates movie. A 6.2 on imdb isn't reflective of "people loved it".

  Oh I understand that considerably. Your comment actually aids my point. Ticket prices increase for valid reasons. Movies cost more to produce.
  But movies from long ago (Gone with the wind, Ten Commandments, etc.) didn't cost as much to produce. Inflation and whatnot... Yet they most likely had mass amounts of tickets sold. Higher than WW and others.
  These massive gross cash values kinda devalues films of the past's worth. It makes it harder to compare which are the real giants.

Oh and i almost forgot to say that back then there wasnt bootleg movies that are hd quality version of the movies online while its still playing in theaters, did you know that wonder woman is online right now with hd quality for the past few weeks, while other movies, which came out way before with none? Im sure that doesnt help either with tickets sold even though its still performing very good.

The 4th billion will come within the year, or at the start of the next. I don´t see WW quite passing the arbitrary 800 mil goal but it will go past Deadpool and become the 2nd biggest comic origin film yet.
Meaning that $783,112,979 is the target this site should cheer for.

I think it can pass 800 mil. Keep in mind it hasn't been released in Japan yet. If WB markets the hell out of it there, it has the potential of making a crapload of money like Frozen did in 2013 where it made 250 mil in Japan alone.

  WW can make about 15 mil Japan, if we look at the DCEU pattern optimistically. Even 20 mil. would be insane, as that is twice what MCU films usually make.
  Mainline Disney animated films are an anomaly over there and usually win the years box-office (as B&B 2017) but Frozen certainly went far.

    There was that Megan Fox as Ivy rumor for one, and I just got the feeling they'll cast Ivy and Catwoman to be young and mesh well with Harley when they should be cast to mesh well with Batman first
    Like honestly I prefer older Catwoman and Ivy especially in this universe with old Batman, like give me Carla Gugino and Jessica Chastain but I'm just afraid they'll go with younger "hotter" cheaper actresses

  If Leto was given actually good direction and writing as well as giving a performance that doesn't sound like it's trying too hard to be Ledger, I wouldn't mind seeing him again in a solo Batman film.
  Waller was the best part of Suicide Squad for me, so I say more for her.
  Captain Boomerang and Deadshot were good in Suicide Squad, but I personally don't need to see them anywhere else in the DCEU other than SS2.
  Harley was good, but I really hope she doesn't appear outside of GCS, cause there is the problem of her being over-utilized in the lore.
  While Killer Croc was a wasted opportunity, I wouldn't mind seeing him again in one other DCEU given the excellent makeup job (ONLY IF HE HAS NO "BET" JOKES!).
  Enchantress I DEFINITELY don't need to suffer through again.

      For me, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was closer to Jim Carrey's Riddler (and Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka) than Leto's Joker, even though Leto still was like Carrey in many ways. They both sucked IMO.
      I agree that Leto had potential, but was just in the film so little that he was just bad. Funny thing is, his best lines are not in the movie ("I can't wait to show you my toys" and "some people just don't know when to die" are lines that the Joker would definitely say, but they were cut out in the final product for reasons I am not entirely sure about).
      As for the design, yeah the tattoos were shit and beyond unnecessary (especially if he's gonna be shirtless for just one scene). However, that was somewhat made up with some of those cool suits he wore over them. If he's wearing a cool suit the whole time he's in the movie, I'll ignore the bad tattoos.
      He's BY FAR the worst live action Joker, I agree, but personally I thought Young Justice's Joker (the show's good though), as well as the Joker from the animated show "The Batman" were slightly worse.

That's NOT a fair comparison, When We saw Man Of Steel, That was the first time We saw Henry Cavill as Superman but Audiences were already familiar with Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman in The Wonder Woman Movie because She was already in Batman v Superman...

    I wouldn't be so sure. Both have a pretty big fanbases. But, though I loved and will always love Man of Steel, what I hated of it was that the colors were a little dull. Had the movie had brighter colors I think it would have made more money at the box office. Every single reviewer remarked how well colors and light were handled in Wonder Woman and that was a thing everybody liked about WW

$800 million is looking more and more likely. Only downside for Wonder Woman is the release of some big films these coming weeks. Should still be possible tho.

I think Wonder Woman's success will only help Justice League. The chances of that making $1 billion are looking more and more likely as well. Hope the film delivers! So far, everything points in the direction of a big fat yes. Hope they show off some more of the underwater world and of course Steppenwolf and Superman!

It's alright though, we all know the release date of JL is very competitive. Plus I have no stake in WB other than being a fan, so for me as long as it is a really good movie, and it gets appreciated by both fans and critics, I will be happy at the end of the day as the DCEU moves forward.

The film still hasn't opened in some markets such as Japan. You seriously think with more than a month left to go in it's run, $4 million is all it will make?

You remind me of the MANY people out there who were absolutely certain the film would STRUGGLE to make just $500 million, would be the least successful DCEU film, AND would NOT top Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor 2, etc.

Couldn't be happier for WW and DC to be honest, much deserved success at the box office. But I still loved MOS more and think it is overall a better movie than WW. Still to this day I can't understand the hate and 56% on rotten tomatoes for it. It blows my mind. Count on it there will never be a better origin movie for Superman than MOS.

The DCEU is currently the 8th most successful movie franchise of all time, ranking right behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe actually.

As it is unfair to compare a movie franchise that has 15 movies in it with a franchise that has only 4 movies, you have to calculate an average gross score for each franchise (all time worldwide box office divided through the number of films in the franchise). The resulting number will give you an average number for how much a franchise has made per movie.

Taking this into account the average box office number per movie for the most 10 most successful movie franchise would be the following:

2. Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts = 944 Million

The fact that the two BIGGEST SUPER HEROES OF ALL TIME couldn't crack $1billion and was lauded (< a joke) by audiences and critics, it's just amazing. THEY only made money because of the brand name recognition. If they were any good they would have made twice as much. WW had a much smaller opening weekend, but because it was GOOD it had legs. It's not how much SS and BVS made, it's how much they COULD HAVE MADE if they weren't made by idiots.

    Yes it is never about actual box office numbers, or what other superhero movies make (MCU average: $306 million), or what DC movies have made in the past. It is always about imaginary numbers that BvS COULD HAVE MADE. Because this way, trolls can always move the goalposts.
    And even Suicide Squad, almost completely unknown before the movie, was supposed to make $1 billion now? That is just deranged. SS was amazingly successful by any standard.
    You have no argument, you are just ranting against some of the most successful blockbusters of the last two years. Good luck with that.

i see The Wonder Woman Movie hasn't made as much money as it was expected INTERNATIONALLY and i think i might know why, First, in the movie Diana says LONDON looks HIDEOUS ,i'm sure that offended many Europeans, Especially after now a days LONDON is getting so many Terrorists Attacks, The last thing LONDON needs is a movie calling Them UGLY, Second, i'm sure many Parents did NOT want to take Their ChiIdren under 13 to see the Movie because of THE SWORD THRU THE HEART Scene in the end, Too VioIent, To be honest i don't know why Wonder Woman now needs to have a SHIELD and a SWORD, She has plenty of SuperPowers, Having Knives, Swords, Guns is OK for somebody like BATMAN or BATGIRL because They have NO SuperPowers, What's next, SUPERMAN or SHAZAM or THE FLASH carrying Guns and Knives or Swords to protect Themselves, That's just ridicules, Do you see SUPERGIRL carrying any Weapons, NO ,Because Her Weapons are Her SuperPowers, Zack Snyder and His Obsession with Swords, Knives and Shields is horrendous, He can't deny His Iove for the 300 Movies that He makes, Fire ZACK SNYDER already!

That's a lot of rage built on a foundation of misinformation and some far fetched thinking... and maybe some anti-Zack Snyder bias.
Diana wasn't trained to use her inherited God abilities, she was trained like every other Amazon, with sword a shield. That's all the explanation you need, and if you think that somehow that extends to Flash or Shazam carrying guns, then I think you should reevaluate some aspects of your life. Listen to your teachers, read a book that doesn't have pictures, don't procreate, etc. (That last bit felt mean, but I'm in that kind of mood)
