Jared Leto channels The Joker to accept "Best Villain" nomination for the MTV Movie Awards

April 7, 2017

The nominations for the 2017 MTV Movie Awards were released this week and Jared Leto has been nominated for "Best Villain" for his performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad.

Leto took to Twitter this afternoon to thank MTV for the nomination in the best way possible... as The Joker! He put a slight twist on one of his lines from Suicide Squad. Check it out below:

"Oh, the fire of my loins. The itch in my crotch. The one, the only, the infamous MTV Movie Awards - Thank you!!! - Joker ðŸ" #VoteJoker🃠https://t.co/yuil1LSDiB

Seeing how bad is SS you understand how important a good script really is for an actor. Can you imagine Heath doing his best with a shitty script a la SS but for TDK ? Well that would be a waste and Jared's work is a waste for this atrocious so called "movie"

The Joker was irrelevant in Suicide Squad. I'd go with the Demogorgon on this list.

The problem is: he was only a villian among a lot of them! He should be THE villian in SS. O hope it can happen in the sequence.

The problem was that Jared shared the bed with Will Smith and the producers gave all the bed to Smith. After all, he is the A-lister who worths 20 million. The only person, they allowed to share the bed with Smith was Margot, the rest was expelled from the bed. That's life! At least, Jared still has a sense of humor about the damage they did in his character.

I know that the problem was not the overall screentime, but how the scenes were cut.
Ten minutes of higher quality scenes are very different from very small scenes of low quality introduced randomly in the film without context. One or Two good scenes would have been enough.
For example, the scene in the helicopter followed by the scene where the Joker antagonizes the squad would have been enough to show if he was good or not as the Joker. He would have the same 10 mintutes but in relevant scenes.

Ok, so your problem is with the actor and his appearance. That are the reasons behind the pseudo fans who know nothing about the character and only care about insipid issues. In the end, nothing else matter for them.
No Joker before had scenes so trimmed, sequences broken and images distorted that were introduced randomly and without connections between them.
The Joker was always an antagonist. Cutting his scene where he antagonized the squad, killed the spirit of the character and made him pointless.
It wasn't Jared who cut his scenes the way they apperead on scren, was he? He shot scenes with several minutes and did several alternatives to every scene to give options to what was written. Guess what the studio did? They put the worst versions in the film like they did with the scene that was in the trailer to promote de film but was cut in the final version" I can't wait to show you my toys."
We didn't see Jared's scenes, we just saw the "ruins" of the scenes that the process of cutting left in the film. It's like looking at the ruins of a castle and think that the castle was built that way.
The studio had to do that so Will Smith could shine a little. After all, he is the main protagonist and the one who will carry the sequel, not the joker.

No, we can not avaliate Leto's Joker because he had not one full scene, just " snapchats" introduced randomly
Ledger's Joker appearance also had a lot of change, the difference was that all changes introduced made sense in the story. The problem was that the studio excluded important scenes and trimmed the others, so the character had no arc, motivation or purpose and as I told before, the joker is an antagonist by nature. If you take that out, you destroy the character. Those are the major problems, not his appearance.
The relation with Harley was not mistaken, it was cut it and reshoot it, because the public focused too much in the chaotic relationship between those two.
I'm not sure, but I think they used a double of Jared in some scenes and then used CGI to change his face, like in the Helicopter and in the final scene. Besides, I talked with a person who watched the test screen and she said that those scenes were completly changed. Harley was with the Joker in the end, but the scene was different.

The reasons were that his scenes were cut and bad edited. The editing has the power to choose what to show in the film. Who knows something about editing, knows how to manipulate the scenes in order to show what they want. They removed the cool scenes that were in the trailers and substituted for worst versions of the same scenes: " I can't wait to show you my toys" and "I'm gonna hurt really really bad". Can you tell me why?
The Nolan universe might be closer to reality than the one that is showed in the comics, but still very far from reality. They would have to change much more things. Besides the aesthetic of the Leto's Joker is also congruent with the aesthetic of the suicide squad.
The Joker is a clown and Jared's mannerisms were clownish and exuberant like in the comics. I guess, in that part he nailed it.
Most of the appearance choices were made by Ayer and by makeup and wardrobe department. Jared just gave the idea of the removal of the eyebrows to look like the endgame joker and the caps on the teeth. By the way, the appearance doesn't define a performance and I guess most people are too much focused on the appearance because like I said: the character wasn't developed. That was the real problem.

Guess, you don't know much about the subject. Several takes are shot while making a scene. According to Jared, they did a lot of experimenting and improvising.
As I said, Jared did not have scenes but "snapchats", so it was easy to cut and paste several experimental takes making that total mess that were his scenes.
Besides, today it is possible to use the CGI. Not yet in full scenes of minutes, but in the fast and small clips like the ones that this Joker had. I think that they used that technique in the scenes that were changed.
It is obvious, they selected the less interesting scenes. They did that right in front of our eyes with the trailer' scenes. Changing scenes that were approved by the public for scenes of worse quality. Ex:"I'll hurt you really really bad and "I can't wait to Show you my toys".
I asked my video teacher and he said that what was done to Joker's scenes was really weird. He said that the scenes have no flow and it is obvious that the scenes were broken. He said that in order to captivate an audience to a certain character, you have to know how to play with the flow and the pacing. An audience feels what is shown to them and it is the editor who decides what to show, how to show and how long that particular scene is shown.
According to my teacher and he knows a lot about editing, if a scene is too fast and doesn't hold in the important moments, it is impossible for an audience to connect with the character. Well, that was precisely what happened in the Joker scenes. Well, most people connected with this Joker, but the editing process did everything to not let that happen.
An example of this is the scene that was in the trailer "hurt you really bad" in which the camera focuses for a while the smile of the Joker and this allows the audience to connect with the character, unlike the scene that is in the movie that is Very fast, has all the same rhythm and does not focus on any part of the character. This type of things doesn't allow the emotional connection between the viewers and the character.
The point here is that Jared wouldn't please everybody anyhow. Each person has their personal reasons to like and not to like something. Not even Joker's Ledger who had complete scenes and was the main antagonist, had the approval of everyone. What to say about a character that only had a few mini-clips scattered randomly across the film.

I was trying to explain to you a little about editing and how the sequences of the scenes that are shown and how they are shown determine how the viewers feel in relation to a certain character and his story, but if you don’t have the ability to understand this, that’s ok.
Think whatever you want! If you don’t like this Joker, there are a lot of people who like him. I guess nobody needs your approval, does it?
I guess you are right, we can evaluate this Joker: he was fabulous although the editing didn't help

An editor cannot create footage, but can cut out essential parts of a scene, make the wrong choices between different takes and I gave you examples of the scenes that were in the trailers but were changed for worst versions and do a lot other things that contribute to the outcome of the scene like the flow and the pacing.
An editor can't save an actor's performance but can destroy an actor performance.
I didn't see the footage, although I know a person who saw it and said that they cut out and changed pivotal parts, but I can understand by myself that each scene has no flow and no sequence or connection with the other scenes. This is pointless, you know nothing about that, so it doesn't matter...
You made it seems that was more than an opinion by the way you expressed yourself. It looks like you were talking about a universal truth.
If there are people who think the way you think, there are much more that think the opposite. And you are right, we can have a sense of the performance: It was amazing!

Why remove the line “ I can’t wait to show you toys or why remove the part where Jared give that sadistic smile while saying “ I gonna hurt really really bad”? ”
Maybe these scenes sucked in the context of the movie.
Yah, they probably just put the mini clips that didn’t suck… That happened with other characters too like Katana, killer croc, slipknot who also sucked.Well if we see closer, everybody sucked except Harley and Deadshot who had much more scenes than anybody else and that happened because they didn't suck so much.
Maybe if you saw all the footage you would think the same way because your perception is very connected with how the Joker should look like, on the other hand, my perception is more based on my knowledge of filmmaking because I'm taking classes in that area.
In the end, nothing is good or bad, are just perceptions based on different backgrounds..

First off, this is an MTV award.., but since ALL of them are 'only awards, where's the line?...
If i was in charge, Negan knocks it out of the park (see what i did there?) and i really hope he wins.
I liked Leto's Joker but i didn’t got 'teased enough' for my taste, i wanted more, i actually wanted him to be the 'main villain', 'its a Squad movie' they said, but the squad needed a nemesis, i said it many times, and got really disappointed when he just cameo, because i think Jared is onto something great with his version, and we didn’t saw it, so this gives me a feeling of unfair nomination, it doesn’t seems legit, unfair to other actors who had the chance and shined (like J.D. Morgan in my opinion), but also unfair to Jared himself, he deserves to show us his Joker in full splendour, and the people helming the DC ship needs to redeem his most beloved villain, i support Leto and i want to see him doing what we all want to see him doing... https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

Hoping Matt Reeves will use him lots!
I'm sure Letoker could've been amazing, if not the best Joker (yes, beat Nicholson, he could've) if he had a better script/director.
Now, I don't blame Ayer and I believe handing him SS as his first big budget movie was a good move, it served as a lesson and will make use of it for his next DC big budget movie.

they are biting off more than they can chew I'd say. doing things for the sake of it. no real reasoning behind it. Instead of building and actual cinematic universe that is coherent they are just exploiting their most popular characters and rushing into making movies and then figuring out how they'll connect them. I mean they don;t even have a Superman sequel or a Green lantern and they have a Black adam movie planned. da fuq?

i couldn't agree more. I feel like dc doesnt have a straight line, something they work towards. marvel has infinity war, you could easily pick smth like that for dc. hell they have ton more stories.
But i think it would be the best to introduce those characters we havent seen at all. Braniac, darkseid, the rogues, every JL member and then build towards it. All they do is focus on batman..
It kinda pisses me off that characters from the justice league gets tossed aside for Suicide squad 2 or even a deadshot movie
