Green Lantern Corps: Tom Cruise, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, and more eyed for Hal Jordan

Last week we learned that David Goyer would write and produce a Green Lantern Corps movie featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and today The Wrap is reporting which actors Warner Bros. is eyeing for one of the lead roles.

Tom Cruise, Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Armie Hammer, and Jake Gyllenhaal are on the shortlist of actors that are being considered for the role of Hal Jordan. Ryan Reynolds already played the character in the 2011 Green Lantern movie.

  Him playing John Stewart would make more sense than trying to bring back GL 2011. That film had a different version of Waller too. What an unwatchable disaster...

Cooper and Hammer are safe choices, but if i had to choose, i want Tom Cruise as Hal Jordan for the simple reason he done the role before in Top Gun. Also,the hope of playing "take my breath away" on the film, what would fit like a glove with the character.

  The problem with tom cruise, is age. The man is in his fifties, that seems a little old to be starting a franchise. Theoretically, whoever ends up playing GL may be doing so in several different movies over the next decade or so. I'm not sold on a sixty year old hal jordan, alan scott, maybe.

      Lol height means nothing in the movies. Everyone thought Hardy was huge as Bane. Dude got fat and he is super short too.

    I dont think Hal Jordan will be around for a series of films. I think Hal may die in JL2 or GLC2.

      It could happen but I don't know why they would, unless the plan is to have hal die and get replaced with kyle or jon. But, that would cause people to wonder if hal might come back as The Spectre.

        Exactly. If Hal dies. Than I could see him still show up as Spectre possibly. I could see Cruise doing it if paired with say Jaime Foxx as John. I think Jake G would better suited as Kyle Rayner IMO. Cooper would work as well as Armie. However, it looks like Armie is going to be in the Batfleck film. McHale would probably a last resort candidate, if they can't get there top choices.

        As long as they don't cast Jack Black(at one point they actually were considering it... yes seriously) and have learned from the mistakes of the last GL movie, I'm willing to give whoever they cast a chance.
        As an aside, I think Christian Bale would make a good Hal Jordan but it would just be too weird seeing him with "Batfleck".

  Tom's huge celebrity presence and history reputation-wise is way too distracting for me. It would pull me right out of the character.

    I hear ya. Well, we may have JK Simmons as Commissioner Gordon but if I were casting the film, Dennis Quaid would be my Commish right now without thinking twice. It'd be cool to find him a legit spot in the DCU that fits.

  I'd take Cruise out of the lot as well,but I'm talking out of bias because I'm a fan.The guy is absolutely nuts and gives 110% on the set,not to mention he's got comedic chops,too.
  If they were going for a younger version,then I'd probably pick Cooper instead of Hammer,who can be pretty stiff as an actor,but all in all I'd be okay with any of the three.

    It's ok though, because my hopes and dreams died in batman v superman but they were back in suicide squad. They died in that movie too. I'm pretty sure they'll make it back for Wonder Woman, so who knows!

Joel McHale would be amazing as Guy Gardner though I would be very intrested if he played Hal the other choices are so obvious. But Reynolds? That must be fake since Ryan said himself he would never play another superhero other then Deadpool plus it would be a stupid move on DC part if they cast him

Jake Gyllenhaal's agent better get to fucking work and get him the role. He's super talented he's a genuine good guy and since Prince of Persia nobody gave him a second shot at a franchise.
I don't see Armie Hammer carrying a movie at all , Tom Cruise is way too big he's gonna turn the movie into another Tom Cruise movie instead of being a Green Lantern movie,Bradley Cooper is with Guardian even if it's a animated role his agents will never let him sign with The MCU biggest competition it a PR nightmare.

      That Dracula movie is not part of the universe they're building right now.Kurtzman confirmed it when the trailer for The Mummy came out.

I think this list is leaked misdirection tbh. Hammer already has the role. Check his twitter account and likes. The other names border sensible and audacious. Enough to make you say you could see it or ask are you kidding me.

  I agree. I think he was cast awhile ago. If that rumor/info about a green lantern showing up in JL is true, and if that green lantern happens to be Hal (I think it will be a different lantern) then whatever scene they needed to shoot for it probably would have been filmed by now or very soon

  Tbh, I'd LOVE Hammer to be Robin. I can definitely picture him as our next Batman after Affleck's run is over. Hammer is just 30 and I don't see Affleck doing this for more than ten years given his age. Hammer would be a great pick to take up the cape and cowl.

I would be surprised if Reynolds agreed to come back to the role. I really like the idea of either Jake or Armie as Hal, would be great casting. Tom Cruise I wouldn't be opposed to if the rumors of Hal being an older veteran GL we're true.

Hammer will be a good choice for Billy/Shazam. He can easily pull off his childish behaviour and he won't look tiny compared to The Rock, I think they are the same height as well.

  Being the Batman in the DC animated movies is not important enough for anything (JK Simmons himself has played JJJ in the spider-man cartoon).
  Bradley would be perfect for the role, but if not him, then maybe Gyllenhaal.

To be in fact he is probably in the best position because he can be a voice and then be Green Lantern. Possibly 2 big tittles in either franchises. Ryan, could be a hard sell but I believe it. I'm fine with everyone on that list.
Tom Cruise nailed the role in Top Gun so Hal Jordan is ez step up.
Joel Mchale has proven he's able to capture the handsome cocky pilot in most roles he's played and his actual attitude.
Bradley Cooper is one Guardian of the galaxy, why not work for the Guardians of the Universe?
Reynolds wasn't the problem with the GL film. Him and Mark Strong played their roles pretty well.
Armie Hammer is the absolute best choice of them all. Look and Voice he's got down perfectly.
Jake is extremely talented and I believe could easily meld into the role.

  Serious question: when did Hal Jordan become the "cocky test pilot" aka jackass that he has been for a while now? That wasn't really his personality pre-Emerald Twilight; back then he was pretty much the same straight arrow he had been in the GL-GA days.

    GL/GA isn't the best interpretation of Hal Jordan. O'Neil wrote him way out of character to bounce off Ollie's liberal point of view. In a sense, he always has been that cocky test pilot, but the New 52 just took it too far and made the character an obnoxious prick. Hal is confident and sometimes that can come off as arrogance, but he's not a jackass.

    Yeah I never understood the whole GL was the worst movie ever shtick. It has problems, but it's an ok movie. Not amazing, but definitely not utter crap. I think in this rotten tomatoes age people think if a movie scores under a certain percentage it's automatically unwatchable.

Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool so he isn't coming back. I love Tom Cruse but i would never see Hal only Cruise so no to him but Bradley Cooper would be a solid choice and so would Jake Gyllenhaal. Honestly though Nathan Fillion would be my choice, sure he's older at 45 but Ben Affleck is 44 so does age really matter too much?

What if Ryan Reynolds is still under contract from the 2011 Green Lantern movie? I'm not sure when those expire, but surely they locked him into a multi-movie deal back then.

  You can break deals and he will soon get mad money due to DP 2 (Fox got all the box-office for the 1st one thoug). GL 2011 was also such a disaster that it needs to die. Brandon Routh was dropped too, and his film at least wasn´t a historic bomb.
