Warner Bros. pushes back 'Green Lantern' reboot

Warner Bros. just made some changes to its movie release schedule, this time affecting the DC Extended Universe once again. Green Lantern Corps, which was supposed to be out in June 19, 2020, has been pushed back to July 24, 2020. Fans who have been waiting for a reboot since the failed Ryan Reynolds movie will have just an extra month to go.

Here's the updated DC Extended Universe release date schedule:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25, 2016
Suicide Squad – August 5, 2016
Wonder Woman – June 2, 2017
Justice League Part One – November 17, 2017
The Flash – March 16, 2018
Aquaman – July 27, 2018
Untitled Movie – October 5, 2018
Shazam – April 5, 2019
Justice League Part Two – June 14, 2019
Untitled Movie – November 1, 2019
Cyborg – April 3, 2020
Green Lantern Corps – July 24, 2020

Producer Charles Roven said that Green Lantern wouldn't show up in the DCEU until Justice League: Part Two at the very earliest, so it's possible we won't see him on the big screen again until this new Green Latern Corps release date -- July 24, 2020.

    C'mon, they had 3 years to film it and what did they do, making a mess out of it plotwise. Better was splitting the movie into 2 parts.

      It was a "mess" plot wise, probably because they butchered it in the editing room.
      They had a complete 4 hour cut of a movie, that took 3 years to make. That would be one hell of a long ass movie if you ask me.
      But of course they had to cut it down to 2 and a half hours. So, we only got a 2.5/4 of the actual movie. That one and a half remaining hour is literally a 2nd movie that we might never see.

        Exactly, they had a 4 hour filmmaterial and they cut down 1.5 hour, really an outrage that is, i think they were afraid that a movie that long wouldn't attract that big of an audience so it's all about money like they say, art isn't important anymore these days.

        I blame Hack Snyder.Idiot prefers quantity over quality and is a bad storyteller.If people remember then Watchmen also faced the same issue.Really don't know what goes through his mind but how did he even think that any production company will allow a four/three hour movie in cinemas?..This idiot is just way too ignorant to learn from his mistakes.
        Those useless knightmare scenes making it to the final cut shows how bad of a director he is cause they didn't contributed anything to the rest of the story.On the other hand, Civil War was like 2 hours 40 minutes long and they cut it down to 2:20 or something.

      There was no mess with the BvS plot. Some editing in the movie is its weakness. That's pretty much it. It was a better movie than Captain American: Civil War. Try to deny that all you want, but I know there are many people that agree with me.

        Sorry but iam just not. Just compare it to watchmen, civil war and even the dark knight. This movie was supposed to be the game changer

  They should have had GL ready to go in Justice League part 1. He could help out in a battle and everyone's like "WFT is that?" Then when the dust settles he lands beside Batman and they have a quick exchange of, "Bats" and "Lantern" and right away it's established GL has been around for a while, but he's been off earth for an extended period of time.
  Flash could say to Batman "Wait, you know this nightlight?"
  Batman replies "Green Lantern and I have worked together in the past. Their yellow counterparts tried recruiting me a few years ago."

        Batman saw his mom get killed. Couldn't do anything to stop it. Became Batman to stop it from happening to others. He's emotionally damaged. He thinks Superman is a dangerous untrustworthy alien who will destroy the world. Finds out Superman is just a dude with powers. Finds some common ground. Finds a bit of redemption as is was able to save Martha Kent from being murdered. Frees him from a lot of his angst. He finds a higher purpose after helping WW and Supes beat Doomsday.

Huh. With all the time between now and then it seems odd that they'd not just leave it where it was until it's not so far off. Unless, they have a somewhat strong certainty of a plan/timeline or know of another big budget movie planned for the June date.

    That whole statement just doesn't feel honest though. I think it's a good idea to take their time to get it right, but it sounds like if they can get a cameo or appearence of sorts into either JL1 or JL2, they'll do it.

It's weird, but this actually makes me feel more confident about the DCEU. If it were in trouble, they'd either remove it or leave it where is to avoid causing concern. This seems more like they have a decent handle on their plan/timeline.

I totally get the characterization they're going with and I have a feeling it will pay off so well with the slow burn character development they're playing with. Cavill IS Superman and I can't wait to see a Metropolis and Superman-centric story again.

    I wasn't a fan of Superman's portrayal in BvS but Man of Steel was still spot on and one of my favorite comic book movies to date.

  If they've split BvS into 2 parts they could've fleshed out Supes more for 2,5-3 hours for part 1 at the start of the year 2016 and at the end of the year 2016 the 2nd part also 2.5-3 hours for the setup to Justice League, that would've been good marketing and they would've crossed the $1B mark for sure. One shouldn't forget that Bats and Supes are the biggest icons in the comic book world. This would be to everyone's imagination.

With this new information, I highly doubt theyll wait 4 yrs before they give us Green Lantern. I think he'll either be introduced at end of Justice League 1, and if not then he'll DEFINITELY be introduced in JL 2. But Im definitely betting on a hint in JL 1

I hopehopehope that the GL Corps is portrayed like a cross between the Colonial Space Marines from Aliens, the Mega City Judges from Judge Dredd and the Men in Black: these guys and gals who are essentially beat cops mopping up the scum of the universe but most of them don't have a gung ho attitude about the job. Their rings chose them but they didn't choose their rings so they're these brash, imperfect police officers equipped with the most powerful weapons in the universe.
Add in a dash of Star Wars and Mass Effect and WB could have a mini cinematic universe WITHIN the DCEU dealing just with GL characters.
Have Hal be the HS senior that everyone looks up to--the war hero, have John Stewart as the stalwart, by-the-book foot soldier and maybe Kyle Rayner as the newbie screw-up.

This sucks... a lot. They need to get Flash and GL out alot faster. I'm siked to see Aquaman and Cyborg but this DCEU needs to lighten up a bit and those characters would have been perfect . Missed opportunity.

  I think it's been confirmed to have all four of them. Hal Jordan (my man), Guy Gardner, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner (I'm so glad nobody cares about Simon Baz...he's boring). It could be like a buddy cop movie, since GLs are basically space cops.

  I forgot where, the only confirmation to it is that Amber Heard is going to play her in Justice League. Commissioner Gordon and Alfred are in it too so for all we know either of them could be it.
