Possible 'Batman v Superman' synopsis reveals interesting new details

Comic Book Movie just spotted that Odeon Cinemas, one of the biggest movie theater chains in the UK, has posted a new synopsis for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It differs from the official synopsis that Warner Bros. released earlier this year, and reveals some interesting new details about Lex Luthor. Here it is:

At long last, see Batman and Superman square off against each other in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice', an epic superhero showdown which will change both their lives forever.
Clark Kent doesn't trust Gotham's mysterious masked vigilante. Bruce Wayne doesn't trust the alien who nearly destroyed Metropolis. And Lex Luthor, who hates Superman more than anyone, is manipulating both of them for his own twisted ends.
Choose your side: the Man of Steel or the Dark Knight? Learn the answer to the age-old question - who would win? - in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice'.

It's not clear as to whether this is an official synopsis or just some clever marketing that the theater put together to drive ticket sales. It's hard to believe a movie theater who works closely with movie studios would make stuff up, but I'll do some digging and report back if I have more to add.

Lex always has a means to his actions. Getting Batman to fight Superman will no doubt only wind up being the tip of the iceberg. You can be sure he sees them as nothing more than pawns in a game of chess, and I'm willing to bet he's hoping they'll take each other out, leaving him completely free to do as he pleases.
As for the fight, I'm guessing it ends in a draw. Obviously Clark could crush Bats, but we all know he won't do that -- especially after the neck snapping incident with Zod. I can see Clark being a little shy when it comes to this fight, which should immediately work as a huge handicap in Bruce's favour to help even the odds.

  Lex Luthor hates Superman. Luthor's personality has no problem to share his world with a night watchman who clean the streets of Gotham, but is incompatible with an ultra-powerful being as the Kryptonian. Luthor have only one goal: kill Superman. Batman, in principle, is no threat to him or his ego.

I'm choosing Superman! The guy's currently the underdog, which he absolutely should not be. I'm hoping that the battle will end with him winning, but in the process showing to Batman that he has a strong moral core, and Batman will accept that.

  who said there will only be one battle? We see Batman evading lasers in his normal suit and then later on another one on one with his armour. My guess is first battle = Batman gets his ass kicked, second fight = Batman brings kryptonite armor and Superman can't do shit (as seen in trailer) .. and then somehow short after the second fight they understand they've been played and both start working together

    I hope not. You realize that had Batman not evaded that blast, he'd be dead? So Sups is now a full blown blood thirsty murderer. My guess is that shot is from the later part in the movie with them fighting Bizzarro.

I recently got to see Eisenberg give a reading from his new book of short stories. He said that lately he's been interested in the concept of manipulation, and how it affects people emotionally, both the manipulator and the manipulated, what it feels like to manipulate someone and what it feels like to be manipulated. He didn't mention this in relation to BvS, but reading between the lines it definitely seemed to be Luthor related. I got the impression that Eisenberg's take is that Luthor is almost addicted to the emotional rush of manipulating other powerful people, that that sense of control and artifice is like a drug for him.
(Also, great news: after the reading I got him to sign a copy of his book and a picture of himself as Luthor. He got excited that I was following the production and told me that BvS is going to be 'amazing,' that working on the film was 'something incredibly special,' that he's very proud to be a part of something so impressive, and that he can't wait for everyone to see how awesome the movie is. He seemed sincere. I got the impression he doesn't talk this way about every movie he makes, and it was just him and I chatting so it's not like he was trying to sell a crowd or anything.)

  That's what I wanted to scream at Eisenberg, but instead I tried to play it cool. He did say that he's so self conscious that he never watches any of his own movies. So just remember... We all get to see BvS, and Jesse Eisenberg doesn't.

I find it hard to believe Lex Luthor can "manipulate" the Worlds Greatest Detective.

  Bruce Wayne is already threatened by Superman. He feels powerless and full of rage, which turns him cruel, which makes him vulnerable to Luthor's manipulation. It happens to the best of us.

        Right? At the very least, this movie is the first to combine Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. That alone is worth the price of admission. If it manages to be great art on top of that, so much the better.

        Ha, well Aquaman hasn't been officially confirmed yet. Still waiting to see if he's in the movie for 5 seconds or 5 minutes. Hopefully he'll be a nice surprise in the film. Also, Flash.

        I'm pretty sure Aquaman's been confirmed to appear in BvS for some time now. Flash hasn't been confirmed.

        True. I just meant it hasn't been confirmed what role Aquaman will play, how big is part will be, or if he'll even be portrayed as 'Aquaman' or just Arthur Curry. The fact that we already have a costume design for Aquaman suggests his appearance will be at least noticeable. I'm just wondering if he'll just be seen locked up in the back of Luthor's lab or if he'll actually be involved with the plot.

        If OMACs do end up being the threat in this film, I have a feeling we'll see Aquaman commandeering sharks to attack them, similar to how he had them attack Parademons in Justice League: Origin. That would be awesome.

        That would definitely be awesome. If that happens, I don't want to know about it until I see it on the big screen. I hope they keep Aquaman's role under wraps until the movie is actually released. Will be a nice surprise for the audience.

      I hope it's as good as I'm expecting... It is going to be a little strange to see the World's Greatest Detective fall from grace and allow himself to be used by Luthor, but I think it will all make sense in the context of the movie (and in the context of human psychology and current events).

Not buying it, so the worlds greatest detective wouldn't see the manipulation from Lex ? I mean I understand the rage that drives in Bruce towards Superman, but maybe just maybe, Lex and Bruce are business partners and the manipulation goes on from there

  I think Bruce uses this opportunity to get close to Lex, because Bruce doesn't trust him, and discovers what he's really up to, which then makes him see that Superman is actually good.

I think Lex's manipulation, has been implied through the trailers. I'm not a fan of Batman EVER getting hacked, but it appears that his Batplane/drone, kills a bunch of people Batman 89 movie-style. That's probably Lex, or a VERY pissed off Batman....

        I mean, in comics and animated TV shows the no-kill rule works.
        But in live action it just doesn't seem sensible, it wouldn't bother me at all if he doesn't kill, but I think it'd make sense if he does in the context of him having absolutely no choice, like, you know, Superman in Man of Steel.
        For example, a 13 year old Robin running around fighting crime works in comics and animated TV shows/movies, but do you think it'll work in live-action? A 13 year old boy...taking down harden criminals, thugs, gangsters, all who have firearms and melee weapons...

        Because Batman has to be put in a situation where he has absolutely no choice but to kill Joker.
        We don't know how many run-ins Batman had with the Joker in the DCeU. It could be three times, four, maybe just twice. We simply don't know yet.
        But simply put: Batman was never put in a situation where he didn't have any other choice. At least, that's how I'd explain it.
        Heck, maybe after what happened to Jason, Batman retired because he was gonna kill the Joker; repeatedly punching his face, knocking his teeth in/out, breaking his jaw, nose, eye-sockets, but the GCPD arrived just in time, preventing Batman from finishing off the Joker.

I love how the trailer does not really give away the Whys and Hows of the movie....we know they're going to fight and then get together....but everything else is pure speculation, love it!

I honestly got that impression from the trailer st Comic Con. Lex being all "Day vs Night," he sounded so gleeful over Batman and Superman squaring off that I could only assume he played a large role in making it happen.

That was obvious to me. I mean, Bruce gets the kryptonite to his armoured suit from Lex. I'm so happy we'll finally get to see the scary master manipulator that we need from Lex, instead of the funny granpa from the previous movies.

It'd be much more appropriate (and believable) if Superman was the only one manipulated. Batman has the smarts. It's an insult the Batman's intelligence and his general mythos.

      He toys with Batman, yes, and often tests his limits because he toys trying to get Batman to do what he wants.
      Often, it works.
      Three examples:
      >If Alan Moore's killing joke ends like it is being said around, Joker manipulated Batman into killing him.
      >Joker manipulates Batman into surrendering in Death of the Family
      >Joker manipulates Batman into believing he has found the cure in Arkham City and thus make him come to save himself AND Thalia.
      There's a difference between being manipulated and not knowing about it. Many times when people just leave a way for Batman to find them, they are manipulating him. He knows it's a trap, but he still is manipulated because his end goal counts on him playing the 'pawn' part. There's no shame in that.

  I think Batman is just playing along with Lex to get close to him....sort of a keep your enemies closer sort of thing...but no way is the Batman being manipulated. Come to think of it, it was probably Batman who broke into's LexCorp and stole the kryptonite. I would see that as a good reason to let Luthor believe he is manipulating Bruce.

  People in grief and emotional agony can get manipulated by sociopath geniuses. It's not a slight against Batman to think that someone could get the better of him for at least part of a story arc. Naturally, he'll figure things out soon enough though. I think you're making too much of a snap judgment here and not really displaying your "smarts."
