'The Dark Knight Rises' soundtrack album art and track listing revealed

JWFan has come across the album art and track listing for Hans Zimmer's The Dark Knight Rises soundtrack. The soundtrack clocks in at just under an hour, and I'm sure there will be a "collectors edition" with even more. You'll be able to pick this up on July 17th, here's the track listing:

At least nothing too important is given away by the track titles. I remember picking up a soundtrack years ago that had a track entitled "The Death of Qui-Gonn". ;)

i kinda feel like this spoils some of the plot chronological order of the film but i love it.

I'm not for sure, but the prologue is a 6-minute sequence. The opening songs of the soundtrack are much shorter. However, the track a little later on entitled "The Fire Rises" seems to be about right. So, we might not be seeing the soundtrack in chronological order. (The Batman Begins soundtrack was not entirely in chronological order.)

  Another theory for "Necessary Evil": Maybe it's something Batman does. It's evil in a way but it has to be done. Like the ending of TDK, some things have to be done regardless of the morals or ethics. Finally then will Batman be able to "do what is necessary", although not in the way Ra's meant (which was killing).
  Maybe a little theory for "Rise" as well:...........Batman..........rises. Literally. After being broken, Batman finally rises back. It's simple but possible.

  maybe the "necessary evil" is batman replacing bane's pain killing gas with the scarecrow's fear toxin or extract of the flower from begins....he could even put it in an aerosol can & label it "Bat-Bane Repellant Spray".

Epic! I kind of feel like 51 minutes is very short though. Unless that Rise track is going through most of the movie like I feel it could. Or maybe there could almost be a part 2, especially a movie of this length. Also I guess the amount of action in this one could be like the tunnel chase in dark knight without music. Either way I know it's going to be fucking epic!

I know what you mean, Batman Begins was 60minutes and The Dark Knight was around 70minutes. The More Hans Zimmer the better, but I will quickly get over the runtime and go on a eternal journey when I am listening to it.

  I just checked, and the Inception soundtrack is only 49 minutes long. And that was one epic work of genius by Hans, so all is good!

That's clearly not enough music for a film with a runtime of 2 hours, 45 minutes. It looks like I'll be buying two albums, just as I had to do with The Dark Knight, which saved the opening and closing music for the collector's edition, when it should have been included on the first (and only) release of The Dark Knight's soundtrack. Just put it all on one disc, one release, don't make us chase, we can take it. It's the soundtrack this world deserves and the one I need right now. Just don't make me buy it twice. Thanks.

with the exception of the Joker-related themes (Why So Serious?, Agent of Chaos, etc.), I think they will be reusing some of the score from TDK to establish continuity from that film: in particular, the "Harvey Two-Face" theme being played over the Harvey Dent Memorial scenes.

  In my opinion, recycled music or themes from film to film has nothing to do with continuity and everything to do with laziness. That's something this crew knows nothing about. Considering Harvey Two-Face and Harvey Dent are two completely different personalities, their themes should reflect as much.
  I expect brand new music from beginning to end and would be disappointed to hear otherwise.

    I would disagree with that, I think it's nice to have pieces of music that carry over depending on it's use.
    There was plenty of themes/cues from Batman Begins in The Dark Knight and would be disapointed if this didn't continue in Rises.

    But continuity has EVERYTHING to do with this kinds of film. It's a trilogy: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and TDKR are not stand-alone stories. Certain musical scores can/ should be used IF a particular scene demands it. It gives audience a sense of familiarity. They might not recall it's title, but they know (fanboys especially) they've heard it before as it connects to a certain scene or character. It even has that nostalgic effect when used in truly ICONIC scenes (score like Superman, Imperial March, Indiana Jones, etc.).
    Take the Joker theme for example: They can (and should) no longer use it (or any of its variation) because it's been made clear (through interviews this past days) that he will no longer be directly acknowledged in this film.
    Also, in my recollection Harvey Dent's only got one (1) theme from the score of TDK and that's "Harvey Two-Face"...can't really think of any other score that would fit the (briefly) shown Harvey Dent memorial scene...unless they decide to go with the "deshi-basara"-chant while Gordon's giving a heartfelt speech about him. that would be a riot!

      Themes of repeating characters should definitely carry over, but everything else should always be different. I would never expect Batman to lose his theme. It's a style that carries over to the rest of the film. Even then, I'd hope that it'd be different from previous films, because the themes of the film and the character's motivations change from film to film. Thus, so should the music.

I highly doubt these are chronological spoilers. The titles of the Dark Knight soundtrack where way out of order chronologically. 'A Little Push' is track 7 on the regular soundtrack and it was in the "Battle for Gotham's Soul" scene. Batman Begins was the same way. Some scenes may also sample from these tracks putting music in scenes that don't have their own tracks (a common tactic in composing)
However, I am fully expecting a collector's edition which I will be all over link white on rice. Even though I already pre-ordered this version.

Thoughts on the last track. Its called Rise, so does Batman defeat Bane and live on as an accepted hero of Gotham of does he defeat him and die in the process, thus rising the legend of the Dark Knight? Figured Id ask since so many fans think Batman will die at the end of the film. Thoughts?

I don't think he dies or gets "broken". The fact that a vigilante has come to Gotham's rescue and was the ultimate solution to the chaos that has been unleashed upon the city (1st: via Ra's Alghul 2nd: via Joker 3rd: via Bane) has indeed made Batman a legend. At this point in time he can gracefully retire, having shown/taught the people of Gotham that there is good in this world and if one man can *rise* above the chaos, then there is hope for civilization. Batman may have retired but the legend lives on.

Based on these vague titles, one can say that there is no back story for Bane much like Joker, which means 2.5 hours of Bane. Giving Bane a back story would only humanize him and the audience would try to rationalize his actions. Nolan likes to start his movies off with action sequences to jump start the momentum.
Spoilers:
Based on how the prologue for TDK, Rises will start off with that prologue from last year (yeah, I know. finally. made. it.) The story then picks up after Bane's airplane stunt with a fast forward of 8 years. It's peace time in Gotham City, Bruce is entertaining guests at his house, Selina Kyle masquerades as one of the help and sneaks off to the study to steal a pearl necklace from a safe. Bruce then confronts Selina, they dance and talk...(Mind if I cut in?) ...at this point Bane crashes the party like the Joker did in TDK, kidnaps Bruce and beats him up and locks him in prison. While Bruce is locked away unable to save Gotham, Bane is having his way tearing Gotham apart detonating stadiums and bridges and shooting up the stock exchange. Bruce climbs out of a well to escape the prison. Bruce asks for L. Fox to help him "get back into the game." Meanwhile Alfred reminds Bruce that he is "not Batman anymore." Selina has been a double agent working alongside Bane to help get those WayneTech tumblers while providing information about Bane's plan with a Gotham cop J. Blake. And that's about as much as I can say having seen a portion under close supervision...but hey as long as L. Fox stays alive at the end.

I think you're pretty out-to-lunch with a few of those "spoilers". I also think you've got the sequence of events wrong. You're completely entitled to invent your own assumptions about the story, but I think you're quite mistaken.
You justify these silly assumptions on "seeing a portion under close supervision". Haha. Good try.

Bane will have a back story. I think you can pretty much guarantee that. Bane's injury earlier in his life that forces him to wear the mask has to be explained. I wouldn't be surprised if Bane is humanized in this movie, he almost has to be. Even Ra's Al Ghul was humanized. Not so as the audience can rationalize his actions but rather to give his actions meaning. If his actions really have no meaning, then he's just the Joker, and from what we've seen and know from the comics, Bane is a man with a plan!
